Clinical Chief of Staff

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Clinical Chief of Staff serves in a strategic position supporting Medical Affairs and in a coordinating position supporting the CEO on select special projects. This role helps Community Healthcare Network execute clinical priorities by translating executive direction into clear action plans, surfacing risks and opportunities, and ensuring follow through across clinical operations, quality, population health, and agency-wide initiatives.

The Clinical Chief of Staff acts as a force multiplier for executive leadership by improving alignment, accountability, communication, operational execution, and cross-functional collaboration. The role requires a deep understanding of organizational culture, clinical operations, systems, strengths, and challenges, with a focus on advancing high-quality, equitable, integrated care across sites.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

75% Support to Chief Medical Officer

Strategic Clinical Operations Support

• Partner with the CMO to drive priority clinical operations, quality, population health, and Medical Affairs initiatives.
• Translate strategic direction into actionable work plans, timelines, ownership structures, and measurable deliverables.
• Develop a strong understanding of CHN’s clinical programs, care delivery model, organizational culture, workflows, strengths, and operational challenges.
• Identify barriers to progress, anticipate risks and dependencies, and recommend practical solutions to improve alignment and execution.
• Ensure clinical initiatives and activities are aligned with organizational strategy, mission, values, and brand.

Organizational Management, Systems, and Process Improvement

• Design, implement, and continuously improve systems, procedures, and protocols that strengthen clinical operations, accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain project-management structures that support initiatives throughout the full project life cycle, from planning and proposal development through implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
• Partner with clinical and operational leaders to identify workflow inefficiencies and support process improvement across sites.
• Help standardize practices, reporting processes, policies, and operational expectations to improve consistency, quality, and efficiency.
• Support documentation, communication, and tracking of clinical policies, process updates, and organizational decisions relevant to clinical operations.

Performance Management and Analytics

• Oversee development and maintenance of clinical performance dashboards, scorecards, and recurring executive reports.
• Monitor provider, site, quality, access, operational, and population health metrics to identify trends, risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.
• Synthesize complex information and data into concise, executive-ready insights that support decision-making, leader coaching, and performance improvement.
• Equip Medical Directors and site leaders with timely, actionable site-level performance information and follow-up tools.
• Support a consistent cadence of performance review, accountability, escalation, and follow-through across clinical sites and programs.

Cross-Functional Initiative Management

• Lead tracking and follow-through for major CMO and Medical Affairs initiatives.
• Coordinate across Medical Directors, site leaders, operations, quality, population health, behavioral health, nursing, finance, information technology, and other internal partners to ensure deliverables remain on track.
• Maintain visibility into initiative status, milestones, risks, decisions, dependencies, and next steps.
• Collaborate with senior leaders on projects and deliverables essential to organizational impact.
• Develop opportunities for cross-departmental integration and stronger collaboration among clinical programs and operational partners.

Executive Communication, Governance, and Meeting Support

• Serve as the CMO’s primary point of coordination for incoming requests, priority items, executive communications, and follow-up activities.
• Prepare executive summaries, briefing materials, talking points, presentations, and recommendations.
• Organize and support clinical leadership, Medical Affairs, and clinical operations meetings.
• Prepare agendas, supporting materials, meeting summaries, and action-item trackers; ensure decisions, responsibilities, and deadlines are documented and followed through to completion.
• Lead cross-functional and cross-organizational meetings, as appropriate.
• Act on behalf of and represent the CMO, as appropriate, with internal stakeholders.

Leadership and Talent Development

• Support Medical Directors and clinical leaders through clear performance information, structured follow-up, and tools that strengthen coaching and accountability.
• Enhance systems and approaches that promote staff performance, engagement, professional development, and job satisfaction.
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to staff on professional development, project execution, and organizational leadership, as appropriate.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, shared accountability, and respectful communication.

25% Support to CEO — Special Projects

• Support CEO-assigned special projects and high-priority strategic initiatives requiring clinical, operational, and cross-functional coordination.
• Conduct research, prepare recommendations, and develop materials for executive review and decision-making.
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholders, milestones, communications, and deliverables for assigned projects.
• Assist with initiatives requiring executive-level alignment, communication, problem-solving, and follow-through.
• Represent the organization, as appropriate, at meetings, conferences, and external stakeholder engagements.

External Partnerships, Policy, and Organizational Visibility

• Identify opportunities to strengthen external partnerships that advance clinical services, population health, integrated care, and organizational strategy.
• Support the CMO, CEO, and other senior leaders in cultivating and stewarding key relationships with community partners, public agencies, funders, and other stakeholders.
• Assist in identifying service-delivery gaps and opportunities affecting the communities served by CHN.
• Support policy, advocacy, and government-relations activities related to clinical priorities, as assigned.
• Partner with executive leadership and communications teams to elevate CHN’s clinical expertise, best practices, and field leadership.

• Performs other related duties as assigned by CMO or CEO.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

• Master’s degree in public health, public administration, health administration, business, social work, or a related field required.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare (clinical and administrative), quality improvement, population health, nonprofit program development, or project management.
• Experience working in a federally qualified health center, community health center, ambulatory care network, or similarly complex healthcare organization preferred.
