Dean of Nursing Location: Wisconsin Market Hours/Status: Full‑Time, Exempt Reports To: State Director This position involves both administrative and instructional duties, supporting the college mission by overseeing nursing program management, faculty development, curriculum design, student outcomes, accreditation compliance, and clinical site development. Job Summary As Dean of Nursing, you will supervise at least three nursing programs (LPN, ADN, BSN), guide faculty, manage program operations, ensure compliance with state, college, and accreditation requirements, and mentor instructors. Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions Serve as academic leader in one or more programs or subject areas. Provide leadership, oversight, and administration of daily operations and strategic planning for nursing faculty and staff, including program and curriculum development, outcomes, evaluation, and resource management for LPN, ADN, and BSN degree programs. Ensure compliance with state, college, and accreditor benchmarks for NCLEX pass rate, retention, graduation, placement, and employer satisfaction. Ensure program compliance with system office, state board, and national accreditation requirements. Lead and facilitate the self‑study process within defined timeframes. Evaluate course and program outcomes; recommend, implement, and evaluate initiatives for improvement. Supervise, coach, and evaluate the Associate Director of Nursing, Clinical Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant for Nursing. Collaborate with the Nursing Clinical Coordinator to develop, monitor, and evaluate clinical placement sites and preceptors, ensuring competency requirements under the Wisconsin Nursing Practice Act. Provide student support and manage instructional costs through effective course scheduling, lab oversight, and advisement. Research and analyze data to assure strong outcomes, using program statistics and NCLEX results to recommend corrective actions. Maintain positive relationships with employers, the State Board of Nursing, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACE‑CNE), and the nursing education community through networking, advisory board facilitation, conferences, and other activities. Provide system‑level subject matter expertise and coordinate nursing program work with the system curriculum and instructional team. Serve on campus committees and participate in campus events. Lead and manage the nursing program within policy requirements defined by Policy MKTG‑002 and the External Communications Policy. Teach as required. Manage the hiring, development, evaluation, and termination of subject‑area instructors in collaboration with the Dean of Instruction. Evaluate faculty credentials as part of the hiring and scheduling processes. Ensure that subject‑area instructors adhere to all required administrative and classroom delivery duties outlined in the job description for Instructional Associates. Collaborate with the Associate Nursing Academic Program Director and Dean of Instruction regarding faculty selection, training, scheduling, coaching, and evaluation. Perform annual performance reviews for subject‑area instructors. Assist the Dean of Instruction in faculty development planning and delivery. Provide ongoing development opportunities for subject‑area instructors. Conduct classroom observations, facilitate pre‑ and post‑observation discussions, and collaborate on developmental plans to monitor progress. Lead instructional delivery and methodology training under the dean’s supervision. Assist the Dean in increasing faculty participation in the Professional Teaching Portfolio. Conduct regular meetings with subject‑area instructors and record minutes. Provide subject‑specific training on instructional changes, curriculum updates, and technology. Adhere to and uphold all established operational policies and procedures. Provide input into the nursing budget process. Establish a calendar and system for accurate completion and submission of government and accrediting agency reports. Pursue professional growth, including participation in and completion of the PD/PA/SAC Certification program developed by the college. Qualifications / Competencies Earned PhD in Nursing or Nursing Education; Master’s Degree in Nursing. Three (3) years of nursing education at the college level within the last ten (10) years; instruction in educational theory or nursing education preferred. Minimum two (2) years of work experience as a nurse and current Wisconsin RN license or eligibility for a license. Expertise in a clinical area. Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and ethical practice with emphasis on problem‑solving, conflict management/ resolution, adaptability, creativity, and sensitivity to diversity. Willingness to self‑assess, take feedback, and incorporate results into practice. Ability to recognize and proactively address areas of opportunity and challenge. Documented management experience in an educational setting. Proven administrative, evaluative, analytical, strategic thinking, and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications. Proficiency with other technologies currently used in the nursing profession. Proven ability to function as a member of a team within established college, state, federal, and accrediting agency regulations, policies, and procedures.
