Inventory Control Analyst
Cummins Inc.
Job Summary In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: Driving a safe workplace by proactively reporting hazards, incidents, and near‑misses while consistently complying with all HSE standards, procedures, and required training. Upholding quality excellence through strict adherence to standard work, accurate process documentation, and timely quality checks that strengthen PFEP data integrity. Resolving material issues by partnering with Quality to disposition non‑conforming material quickly, protecting production flow and customer satisfaction. Optimizing delivery performance by managing part changes, ramp‑up/ramp‑down activities, and inventory readiness to meet global aftermarket demand while minimizing excess and obsolete stock. Ensuring compliant part setup by coordinating with Purchasing and support teams to establish correct sourcing, initiate No Source Cases, and maintain full Hazmat compliance with internal and regulatory requirements. Strengthening inventory health through bank‑build coordination, demand monitoring, planning parameter improvements, and root‑cause analysis that reduces E&O and supports smarter supply decisions. Building strong team alignment by communicating clearly across planning, purchasing, quality, and product management teams to ensure shared understanding and smooth execution of daily and strategic activities. Growing through continuous improvement by completing required training, contributing to safety, quality, and process‑flow projects, and remaining flexible to support evolving business needs. Success in this role Clear, adaptive communication to deliver multi‑mode messages that fit the needs of planners, engineers, suppliers, and leadership, ensuring alignment across all supply‑chain activities. Customer‑focused decision making to build strong relationships, understand downstream impact, and ensure planning, scheduling, and change‑control actions support customer delivery requirements. Results‑driven execution to consistently meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and maintain performance under pressure while driving measurable improvements. Complexity and process mastery to interpret large, sometimes contradictory data sets; optimize work processes; and apply PFEP principles across master data, material flows, transport, and warehouse management. Advanced planning‑system capability to leverage the materials planning system as your primary tool—managing supply/demand, resolving exception messages, executing part‑change control, and maintaining a valid Master Production Schedule. KPI‑driven analytical judgment to interpret materials KPIs, understand customer impact, balance trade‑offs, and influence improvements in scheduling, inventory health, and overall supply‑chain performance. Education/Experience This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations. High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations. Key Responsibilities Analyze inventory data to identify discrepancies, trends, and systemic issues impacting inventory accuracy. Perform root cause analysis for inventory variances related to production, receiving, storage, picking, and shipping activities. Conduct physical investigations on the plant floor to trace parts, validate transactions, and observe processes contributing to inventory discrepancies. Reconcile system inventory to physical counts and support cycle counts and physical inventories. Partner cross-departmentally (Operations, Warehouse, Planning, Quality, Engineering, Finance) to identify process gaps and breakdowns. Document findings and recommend corrective and preventive actions to improve inventory controls. Support the development and improvement of standard work, procedures, and controls related to inventory management. Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions and track sustained improvements in inventory accuracy. Prepare reports and communicate findings to leadership with clear, data‑driven insights. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience in inventory control, materials management, or supply chain analytics in a manufacturing or distribution environment. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate findings into actionable insights. Comfort working in both office and plant‑floor environments. Ability to work cross‑functionally and influence without direct authority. Strong problem‑solving and root cause analysis skills. Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel (or similar data analysis tools). Preferred Qualifications Experience with cycle counting programs and physical inventory processes. Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies. Experience identifying and closing internal control gaps related to inventory. Key Competencies Attention to detail. Process‑oriented mindset. Clear and concise communication. Ability to balance data analysis with hands‑on investigation. Continuous improvement focus.
