Accountant I

Job TitleReporting directly to the Assistant Financial Director, responsible for entry-level accounting duties in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and applicable laws, codes, and regulations. Ensures accuracy and completeness of financial information and reports.Examples Of Work PerformedBalances and reconciles the general ledger and subsidiary accounting systems; examines all accounting transactions for accuracy; makes corrections to financial records as necessaryReviews contracts and agreements for budget appropriatenessReviews Commissioner's Court agenda; identifies all project related contracts, work authorizations, change orders, and agreementsPrepares grant reports, including monitoring grant expenditures and revenues as well as ensures compliance with grantor requirementsCommunicates frequently with county staff and the general public to exchange financial informationReviews and approves electronic asset transfer formsCreates and bills monthly and quarterly invoices; reviews and follows up on past-due invoicesAssists with recording and reporting of fixed assetsPrepares journal entriesAssists with year-end proceduresReviews expenditures for classifying in the appropriate fiscal year until the financial reports are issuedPrepares and reviews financial reportsAssists with reviewing issues regarding project invoices, budgets, contracts, or any other accounting or financial inquiriesAssists with various county financial related reports, research, and other financial information as neededCollaborates with project managers on work authorizations and amendmentsAssists Accountant II with various tasksAttends all meetings and trainings, as requiredPerforms special duties as assignedOrganization RelationshipsReports directly to – Assistant Financial DirectorDirect Reports – NoPhysical DemandsPosition involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing and occasional lifting/carryingEnvironmental FactorsWork is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environmentRegular travel between work sites as requiredIrregular HoursWork outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be requiredMay be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergencyThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
