Bindery - Folder, Cutter Operator

Visions Inc

Job Description

Job Description

Do You Take Pride in Making Things Right?

Bindery Machine Operator – Cutting & Folding

Production & Manufacturing | Brooklyn Park, Minnesota

Some people see a machine.  You see what it can produce.

You understand the satisfaction of setting up a piece of equipment, making the adjustments, solving the problems, dialing everything in...

And watching a quality finished product come off the other end.

  • You notice when something isn't quite right.
  • You understand that a fraction of an inch matters.
  • You know the difference between simply running a machine...  And becoming excellent at your craft.

If you're mechanically inclined, quality conscious, enjoy working with your hands, and take pride in producing something tangible at the end of the day...  We'd like to meet you.

Welcome to Visions:

Visions, Inc. is a growing, forward-thinking provider of  Printing, Direct Mail, Direct Marketing, Large Format Graphics, Fulfillment, and Custom Manufacturing Solutions headquartered in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Every day, our team produces thousands of products for organizations across the country, from growing businesses to some of the world's most recognized companies. And none of it happens without talented people in Production.

  • People who operate the equipment.
  • People who understand the process.
  • People who solve problems.
  • People who care about quality.
  • People who make things happen.

At Visions, we believe exceptional quality and exceptional customer service begin long before a product reaches our customer.  They begin on our production floor.

This Isn't Just Operating a Machine.  It's a skilled manufacturing position.

As a  Bindery Folder/Cutter Operator , you'll play an important role in transforming printed sheets into professionally finished products ready for our customers.

You'll operate, set up, adjust, troubleshoot, and maintain commercial bindery equipment including programmable guillotine cutters and folding equipment. You'll work with different stocks, specifications, folds, trims, bleeds, and finishing requirements.

You'll read job tickets.

  • Set up equipment.
  • Measure.
  • Adjust.
  • Inspect.
  • Troubleshoot.
  • Improve.
  • And when something isn't right...  You'll help figure out why.

Because we're not looking for someone who simply pushes buttons.  We're looking for someone who understands the machine, understands the product, and takes pride in producing it correctly.

The Kind of Person Who Thrives Here:

  • You like working with your hands.
  • You're mechanically inclined.
  • You enjoy figuring out how things work.
  • You'd rather solve a problem than complain about one.
  • You're a self-starter who doesn't need someone constantly telling you what comes next.
  • You notice details others might miss.
  • You understand that quality isn't something inspected into a product at the end.

It's something you build into the product from the beginning.

You also understand manufacturing is a team sport, and what happens at your machine affects the person at the next machine.

  • What Production does affects Shipping.
  • What Shipping does affects the customer.
  • And what each of us does ultimately affects the reputation of Visions.

We're all part of the same supply chain.

What You'll Do:

As a member of our Bindery team, you'll be responsible for efficiently producing high-quality finished products while helping keep work moving throughout our manufacturing operation… You will:

  • Set up, calibrate, adjust, and operate guillotine cutters, programmable cutting systems, folding equipment, and related bindery machinery.
  • Review job tickets, production specifications, layouts, measurements, and customer requirements before beginning production.
  • Organize your work around daily production schedules and changing customer priorities.
  • Cut printed materials to final size or prepare materials for additional bindery operations.
  • Cut unprinted stock for press and other production requirements.
  • Set up and operate folding equipment to accurately produce a variety of finished configurations.
  • Work closely with saddle-stitcher, folder, cutter, and other equipment operators to coordinate bleeds, trims, folds, and finishing requirements.
  • Monitor production throughout each run for quality, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Inspect finished materials and identify defects or inconsistencies before they move to the next production stage.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting to keep equipment operating effectively.
  • Communicate immediately with Production leadership when specifications, materials, equipment, or quality requirements don't look right.
  • Coordinate workflow with other operators to help keep jobs moving efficiently throughout the plant.
  • Maintain accurate load tags and required production documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professional work area.
  • Look for opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and make our manufacturing processes better.

And most importantly...  You'll take ownership of the quality of the work you produce.

What You'll Bring:

We're looking for someone who already understands commercial bindery and wants an opportunity to continue developing their skills and career.

Required Qualifications:

At least 1 year of commercial bindery experience operating a cutter, folder, or similar finishing equipment.

  • Working knowledge of commercial cutting and folding processes.
  • Understanding of saddle stitching, perfect binding, and related bindery operations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an ability to troubleshoot equipment and production issues.
  • Ability to read and understand job tickets, measurements, production specifications, and written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Dependability and willingness to take ownership of your work.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a manufacturing team.

Experience We'd Especially Value:

  • Knowledge of different papers, substrates, and materials and how they respond during cutting, folding, and finishing.
  • Experience with computerized or programmable cutting systems.
  • Knowledge of commercial print manufacturing and supply-chain workflows.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality standards and quality-control procedures.
  • Experience with saddle stitching, perfect binding, folding, cutting, or other commercial finishing equipment.
  • Previous experience in a quality-driven manufacturing environment.

Quality Matters Here:

At Visions, "good enough" isn't our standard. Our customers trust us with their brands, their products, their deadlines, and their reputations. That's why quality matters at every stage of production.

We want operators who take pride in their machines.

  • Pride in their department.
  • Pride in helping their teammates.
  • And most importantly...  Pride in the product that leaves our facility.

When one of our customers opens a carton hundreds of miles away, they may never know your name. But they'll know the quality of your work.

Now that's craftsmanship.

Why Join Visions?

Because we're growing. Because we're investing in our capabilities. Because we're continually looking for better ways to manufacture, serve our customers, and improve our company. And because we believe the people operating our equipment aren't simply "labor."  They're skilled professionals who make our business possible.

At Visions, you'll work in an environment built around teamwork, respect, accountability, continuous improvement, and high standards.

We want people who bring ideas forward.

  • People who want to learn.
  • People who help teammates.
  • People who see a problem and start thinking about the solution.
  • And people who want the opportunity to build a long and successful career with a growing company.

Our Core Values guide how we work together:

  • Embrace Change.
  • Stay Positive.
  • Be Clear and Responsive.
  • Work Together.
  • Pursue Excellence.

Physical Requirements:

This is an active manufacturing position and requires the ability to:

  • Lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly.
  • Stand and work around production equipment for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive production tasks.
  • Demonstrate good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Safely work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

If This Sounds Like You...

  • If you enjoy working with machines...
  • If you're mechanically inclined...
  • If solving a production challenge is more satisfying than avoiding one...
  • If you care about precision...
  • If you believe a job worth doing is worth doing right...
  • And if you want to finish your workday knowing  you actually made something ...

You may be exactly the person we're looking for.

Come Build Something with Us.

  • Bring your skills.
  • Bring your experience.
  • Bring your ideas.
  • Bring your pride in craftsmanship.
  • And join a team of people committed to producing exceptional work for the customers we're privileged to serve.
