Job Summary Working closely with the Club Manager, the Assistant Club Manager in Training (AMIT) is responsible for providing leadership and direction within the club and driving club performance, particularly for the departments that they directly manage. The AMIT role prepares individuals to assume one of three Assistant Club Manager positions: Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience. The trainee will receive focused development and experience aligned to their designated track and will ultimately oversee the corresponding departments. Ensures consistent execution of policies and procedures, a positive member service experience, Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) standard club conditions, and provides overall leadership and direction within the club. A key function of the AMIT role is the ability to develop talent, display leadership, and deliver results consistently. The AMIT leads audit compliance efforts, drives collaboration with Business Partners (BPs), and oversees onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence. This role also serves as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the club as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and Member engagement during assigned shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be maintained in good standing. May require yearly certification for a forklift license. In Florida, this role must obtain a qualifier certification through the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for retail propane oversight. Responsibilities Leadership & Operations Partner with the Club Manager to oversee daily operations across assigned departments (Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience). Recruit, hire, onboard, and certify team members. Oversee labor planning and scheduling to meet business trends and budgetary targets. Drive sales, inventory control, and shrink management to maintain in‑stock conditions and maximize profitability. Lead audit compliance efforts and manage food safety, sanitation, OSHA, RIST, and cold chain standards. Act as Manager on Duty (MOD) taking full responsibility for club operations during assigned shifts. Support department talent management, including performance reviews and succession planning. Utilize BJ’s internal systems (MY WORK, production planning tools, NAFS, scorecards, scheduling systems, dashboards) for decision‑making. Member Experience Champion membership service standards (GAA – Greet, Anticipate, Appreciate; GOLD – Grand Opening Look Daily; LAST – Listen, Apologize, Solve, Thank). Ensure rapid service and a premium shopping experience for all members. Monitor engagement levels and resolve member concerns efficiently. Leadership Development Develop and coach team members, fostering a culture of growth and continuous improvement. Communicate effectively, provide clear direction, and hold team members accountable. Lead through change, model leadership competencies, and promote inclusive teamwork. Qualifications 4+ years of experience managing retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations. Strong drive for results and a solid work ethic. Honesty, straight‑forwardness, and a commitment to high levels of member service. Excellent communication skills. Ability to lead and motivate a large team. Solid understanding of shrink controls, staff development, merchandising, customer service, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution. Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managing/supervising cross‑functional teams and training team members. Knowledge of store operations, membership, front‑line, gas station, tire bay, maintenance, receiving, and omni procedures. Completion of company training program preferred. High school diploma and/or college degree preferred. Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, Email). Must obtain and maintain ServSafe certification. Forklift operator required. Open shift availability required. At least 18 years of age. Job Conditions Frequent movement on hard surfaces; occasional bending, pulling, and reaching. Regular lifting up to 30 pounds; occasional heavier lifting with assistance. Exposure to temperature extremes and loud noises in perishable areas. Potential exposure to cleaning agents.
