Senior Tooling Engineer

Direct Hire opportunity for a key position in our client's organization. This is an Employee Owned Company, Tier 2/Tier 3 Autoparts Supplier based in Independence KY.


Primary Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Senior Tooling Engineer, who is responsible for assisting with design intent, developing, testing, implementing and improving production tooling (manufacturing equipment, attribute gages, fixturing and material handling needs) in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure tools meet quality and production requirements and look for opportunities to improve efficiency.

Essential Functions:

1. 1. Assist in Design and develop specialized tooling, dies, molds, jigs, fixtures, and gauges for production use, using CAD (SolidWorks) software.
   2. Analyze product designs to determine tooling requirements and manufacturing feasibility.
   3. Oversee tool assembly, testing, and validation.
   4. Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
   5. Improve existing tooling to enhance quality, productivity, and cost efficiency.
   6. Coordinate with production, maintenance, and quality departments during new product launches, new processes, process changes, etc.
   7. Ensure tooling complies with engineering specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements.
   8. Conduct root cause analysis for tooling failures and recommend preventive measures.
   9. Prepare engineering documentation, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), maintenance procedures, and preventive measures.
   10. Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
   11. Manage tooling needs, maintenance schedules and spare inventory.
   12. Work directly with sources to provide adequate design feedback. Monitor and confirm their ability to meet timelines as needed, solve design issues as they arise.
   13. Participate in sales reviews to ensure appropriate risks are considered with respect to customer requirements. Establish proper alternate feedback when necessary.
   14. Assist with developing project plans for capital projects and be capable of being the primary project manager.
   15. Collaborate with plant electricians, mechanics, and operations personnel to provide technical support in diagnosing and resolving electrical, mechanical, and process-related issues.
   16. Assist in the development of long-term capital improvement plans for the plant, focusing on equipment upgrades, process improvements, and cost-saving opportunities.
   17. Research new materials and methods of development for improving tooling.
   18. Assist with organizing and maintaining existing and new engineering records/designs.
   19. Lead process improvement studies through engineering improvements.
   20. Hands on approach to assist with project launch activities.
   21. Provide support and perform activities related to cost analysis when quoting new projects.
   22. Develop methods to predict cost of production, components, design and assembly of goods, tooling and fixtures.
   23. Other duties or projects as required to support the organization.

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. 1. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field preferred. (Appropriate experience can be used in lieu of education).
   2. Deep comprehensive understanding of GD&T a must
   3. Displays all BGM Core Values including mindset of an owner and entrepreneur.
   4. In depth experience of Tool & Die w/ design experience
   5. Understanding of CAD/CAM.( SolidWorks 3D)
   6. Knowledge of types of metals and their characteristics or ability to gain knowledge through self-research.
   7. Impeccable attention to detail.
   8. Ability to plan, schedule, and problem-solve effectively.
   9. In depth knowledge of machining and manufacturing processes.
   10. Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office products, (i.e. Excel, Project, etc.)
   11. Project Management skills and experience.
   12. Experience with integration activities
   13. Has and will maintain an acceptable driving record to travel to customers and suppliers both inside and outside of the country. Valid passport or ability to get one.

Organizational Relationships:

1. This role will work directly with C-level roles, Board of directors, the President and Plant and Production Management.
2. This role will require effective communication and professional relationship building amongst personnel at all levels, internally and externally, Suppliers, Customers and to the Company, in relation to Quality and Engineering matters.

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 Per Year
