About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours, Nights, Every other weekend, First to float Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Valid RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cerner experience preferred; ability to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms Description: The unit consists of 32 beds, all private. The nurse-patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients. If a mixed team of MedSurg and telemetry patients is present, the ratio remains 1:4. Common diagnoses include acute and chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients, including bariatrics and total joints. Experience with urology, gynecology, podiatry, general surgery, and stroke patients is required. Ability to handle non-titratable drips is expected. Potential oncology patients may also be present. RNs will not be required to titrate drips. Common drip rates include set rates for Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin. Telemetry monitors are of the GE brand. A charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24/7. A nurse manager is available during normal business hours. Nurse aides will be present based on census. Standard equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP, but no vents. Shifts are 12 hours long, from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. There is a shift huddle every morning and evening. Weekend requirements include four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule. Holidays require one major and one minor holiday minimum. There is no call requirement, but staff may be placed on standby for low census. Travelers will be first to float to other units as needed. Scrubs must be navy blue, with specific guidelines for undershirts and jackets. Additional notes include the expectation of a warm and welcoming staff environment. Evidence-based practices such as bedside shift report and intentional hourly rounding are upheld. The unit experiences high volumes of admissions and discharges. Any issues compromising patient safety are not tolerated. Strict attendance policies are enforced.
