Assisting Hands is seeking a MALE Direct Support Professional to aid an autistic, male individual. The individual has a documented history of severe self‑inflicted head/body trauma and may strike his head against walls or objects, creating risk for TBI, facial injury, dental trauma, and infection.Behavioral episodes may occur weekly or daily and can include throwing nearby objects, sweeping items off surfaces, and breaking household fixtures.The candidate must be experienced, caring, and motivated to support the individual in completing his evening routine and successfully transitioning to bed at the scheduled bedtime through consistent structure, calming strategies, and safety‑focused behavioral support.ResponsibilitiesProvide calm, consistent support during agitation and assist with de‑escalation.Reinforce household etiquette and redirect unsafe behaviors.Maintain safety during aggressive or self‑injurious behavior; use PPE as required.Assist with daily grooming, showers, dressing, meal prep, and eating.Support personal‑space needs and assist with locating preferred itemsTeach and reinforce street‑safety skills, including stopping for cars, looking both ways, and respecting property boundaries.Ensure safety during outdoor play, including trampoline use, swings, slides, and recreational activities such as basketball.Provide literacy support through reading, spelling practice, and assistance with scheduled educational sessions.Assist with household chores and yard work; encourage participation in age‑appropriate tasks when the individual is able.Support basic household maintenance tasks and safely involve the individual in simple repair activities when appropriate.Assist with craft projects, creative activities, and exploration of new hobbies.Accompany the individual to grocery stores, community outings, the gym, and the pool; support safe participation in fitness routines.Encourage positive social interaction and help identify new activities and outlets the individual may enjoy.Support personal‑space needs and assist with organizing toys and locating preferred items.Transport and accompany individual to programAssist individual in making progress on their outcome and goals for the specified service as defined in their Plan of CareAdvocate for individual at all times for patient rights and ensure their dignity and privacy are respectedAttention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules when caring for the individualEnsure the safety and well-being of the individual at all timesReport any changes in individual condition or situations to supervisor and family/guardianDocument services provided (CBS Log)Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) required via iPhone / AndroidThis job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
