Job Description Job Title: Program Director Employment Type: Temporary | Full‑Time | Exempt Full‑Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $124,950 to $156,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience. The Program Director, MA in Writing & the Human Condition will guide the Woods College Creative Writing Program through all necessary milestones to welcome an inaugural class in the Fall of 2026 and new cohorts every subsequent fall semester. The Program Director will establish the program’s administrative and policy foundation, including formal procedures for admissions, student evaluation, retention, grievances, due process, and nondiscrimination. Additionally, the Program Director will choose and lead an admissions committee, which will select the students admitted for each cohort. The Program Director will design a curriculum that integrates first‑class training in the craft of creative writing with a substantive foundation in the insights of the psychological humanities. This involves drafting detailed syllabi, mapping competency benchmarks, and guiding the program through internal curricular review processes. The Program Director will plan the annual summer writers’ residency. Responsibilities will include developing an itinerary, engaging distinguished writers, publishers, editors, and agents to deliver remarks, booking or otherwise securing enriching activities for the students, and making accommodations for room and board of the students and guests. The Program Director will steward the hiring and recruitment strategy for faculty, which will initially comprise adjunct professors, and in due course, a professor of the practice. Administrative staffing needs will also be identified and articulated. Finally, the Program Director will work closely with the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management to design and implement student recruitment and marketing strategies, leverage professional networks, and media platforms to raise visibility for the program. This includes designing admissions and enrollment processes as well as cultivating partnerships with authors, publishers, editors, agents, and creative writing outlets. Requirements Required: Strong communication, collaboration, and consensus‑building skills; Extensive knowledge of the history of the humanities; Ability to tactfully and effectively respond to and handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations, conflicts, and problems; Demonstrable problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently; and experience as an effective team leader. Education, Training and Certification, Licensure, Registration Requirements A terminal degree is required in an appropriate discipline relative to: (i) creative writing (MFA); or (ii) the psychological humanities (PhD in literature, psychology, philosophy, or theology) – along with at least two years of managing complex projects and/or teaching at the undergraduate level or above. Experience The ideal candidate will possess at least two (2) years of experience managing complex projects and/or teaching at the undergraduate level or above.
