Pharmacy Technician

Job Purpose and Summary Pharmacy Technician (Technician) supporting pharmacy teams to ensure operational and service excellence. Technicians are the first point of contact for patients and customers, helping to deliver a high‑quality experience, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and providing caring service that exceeds patient expectations. Responsibilities Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health. Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, and drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment. Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt and personalized moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services; and demonstrating compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems. Complete basic inventory activities, as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership (e.g., putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories). Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek feedback, and expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients. Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including voluntary travel to stores in the market. Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping, and protection of patient privacy and security. Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and optional staffing of off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by training. Immunization Responsibilities Complete additional licensure and training requirements, in compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, to obtain Technician Immunizer status to prepare and administer vaccines. Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer patients to the attending pharmacist for vaccination questions. Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions; report adverse reaction events per public health requirements. Review and collect patient information; track and document for each applicable patient. Monitor and manage vaccine supplies. Required Qualifications Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, which includes but is not limited to age, education, and licensure/certification. If the state board does not address or mandate a minimum age requirement, must be at least 16 years of age. If the state board does not address or mandate a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school or a high school equivalency program. State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state (details available through the company). Essential Functions Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends. Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe. Attention and Focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly among tasks, and confirm prescription information and label accuracy. Customer Service and Team Orientation: look for ways to help people, respond to patient reactions, and act in a friendly manner. Communication Skills: use and understand verbal and written communication, active listening, and appropriate timing of interruptions. Mathematical Reasoning: solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets to dispense and the number of bottles required. Problem Resolution: identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action among multiple options. Physical Demands: mobile and upright for extended periods, lift items up to 20 lbs, reach overhead, type, and maintain visual acuity; perform repetitive tasks with fingers; be able to receive detailed oral instructions. Perform any additional tasks directed by Supervisor or Manager. Preferred Qualifications 1‑3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician. Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting. Ability to work in the home store and across the market in other locations to meet business needs.
