Rust Software Engineer

Job description:

Were looking for a mid-level Rust Software Engineer to build and optimize high-performance software supporting simulation, optimization, and decision support in mission-focused environments.

You'll work in a large, production Rust codebase alongside researchers and engineers, turning complex algorithms and research into reliable, performant software . The role spans backend services, databases, frontend applications, and supporting infrastructure, making it a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems and seeing research become operational capability.

What Youll Do

• Develop and maintain production software in a large Rust codebase
• Design and optimize performance-sensitive algorithms and computational workloads
• Build backend services using technologies such as Axum and Tokio
• Integrate software with databases, frontend applications, APIs, and infrastructure
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and end users to translate complex technical concepts into practical software
• Help evolve research-driven capabilities into scalable, maintainable production systems

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics , or a related technical field
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience developing production-grade, performance-sensitive software in Rust
• Experience developing backend services with Axum or similar frameworks
• Experience with asynchronous programming , preferably using Tokio
• Strong software engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills
• Experience working across the software stack, including familiarity with web application development
• Ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, engineers, and end users
• U.S. citizenship required
• ACTIVE SECRET Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• ACTIVE TS/SCI CLEARANCE
