Aide - Instructional Aide for English Learners at Prospect High School (2026-2027)

Job Summary Under the supervision of a teacher or administrator, provides instructional support and services to Emergent Multilingual students, possessing the skills necessary to work in an instructional setting with students who are not proficient in English. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Support Emergent Multilingual Learners to master grade‑level content and skill standards initially introduced by the teacher. Provide in‑the‑moment support to fill gaps in students' background knowledge and skills, build academic habits, and enable mastery of grade‑level expectations. Assist students with using computer programs, reading, writing, math, and other academic skills. Support students to improve comprehension and production of English. Translate oral or written English into students' primary language as needed to support comprehension and demonstration of grade‑level knowledge. Help students focus on academic tasks, behave appropriately, and self‑advocate in the classroom. Supervise students and maintain order and discipline in the classroom and other settings, including emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, etc. Orient and integrate new students into the school by informing them of policies, available supports, and clubs. Refer students to support services such as community liaison, counselor, or social‑emotional counseling. Help students with study problems and monitor understanding of in‑class instruction. Communicate regularly with classroom teachers about students' understanding and needed support. Assist with career materials, administer language placement tests, and other classroom tests as requested. Assist with the administration of required state assessments (ELPAC, SBAC, etc.). Interpret in Parent Advisory Committee meetings and translate letters and forms sent to parents. Interpret and translate for parents, students, counselors, deans, health clerk, psychologists, and other staff as needed. Perform other duties/skills related to the job description as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of college (48 semester units). Experience working with teenagers is preferred. Fluency in Spanish or another language for speaking and writing. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Typing and basic office equipment skills. Skill in working with students in various settings to reinforce learning introduced by the teacher. Clerical skills such as filing, duplicating, maintaining routine records, operating basic office equipment, and utilizing computer skills. Compensation and Benefits Salary Schedule: CSEA Range 1. Work year: 206 days, 6 hours per day. Hourly rate: $23.63 – $33.23. Sign‑In incentive for bilingual Spanish (one‑time, prorated). Monthly stipend of $100 for bilingual (Spanish). Generous health benefit options, several with no employee contribution for coverage of self. Work Environment High school classroom and office environment. Moderate physical effort.
