Registered Nurse - PICU - Full Time/Days - Req# 2117966029

A Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients as established by the Nursing Practice Act of the State of California and guided by hospital policies and procedures. Duties and Responsibilities Nursing Process – Applies the nursing process in direct patient care, provides accurate assessment and documentation of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, and spiritual needs, updates nursing care plans, and evaluates patient progress each shift. Patient Education and Discharge Planning – Provides information and directs educational processes, initiates discharge planning at admission, and updates referrals as needed. Clinical Care Delivery – Stays current with nursing practices, interprets rules and regulations, understands legal aspects of nursing care, upholds patient rights, and acts as liaison between medical staff and the care team. Technical Equipment – Operates technical equipment safely, efficiently, and accurately. Environment and Safety – Maintains a safe, comfortable environment, reports hazardous conditions, uses aseptic techniques, prevents infection using the Exposure Control Plan and Standard Precautions, and knows emergency codes. Leadership and Professionalism – Supervises colleagues, ensures quality of care, delivers accurate patient reports, adheres to privacy laws and the Code of Conduct, completes mandatory training, and demonstrates ethical decision making. Communication – Communicates effectively with patients, families, visitors, and physicians, solves problems and crises, follows chain of command, and accepts constructive criticism. Age‑Specific & Cultural Competence – Demonstrates knowledge of special needs and behaviors of age‑specific and cultural groups, and participates in related training programs. Non‑Essential Duties Participates on unit or hospital‑based committees. Performs other duties as assigned within compliance with Title 22, the Joint Commission, and CMS. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge – Supports AVH values and mission, conforms to accreditation standards, and follows quality management and performance improvement guidelines. Skills – Uses telephone etiquette, works effectively in a team, and safely operates all necessary equipment. Abilities – Adheres to AVH policies, organizes work and priorities, performs under pressure, supports high patient satisfaction, is flexible with staffing, and meets basic health and physical job standards. Education and Experience Education – Maintains current licensure, certifications, and education; participates in mandatory or optional educational activities; demonstrates competence using hospital IT systems; completes written and practical competencies annually or as assigned. Experience – Preference for two years of acute‑care nursing; new‑grad training provided as appropriate. Required Licensure and Certifications Current California Registered Nursing license. BCLS Certification. ACLS, PALS, and/or other specialty certifications as required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work performed under stressful, emotional, and physical conditions. Accepts additional workload during high activity or emergencies. Potential exposure to contaminated instruments, wet/humid conditions, fumes or chemical agents, electrical shock, and radiation.
