Facilities Utility Worker 1st Shift

SUMMARYThe Utility Worker will be able to perform all basic maintenance skills that do not require certification. He/She will also perform Housekeeping duties, all indoor and outdoor upkeep and general maintenance of all Tribal Buildings, grounds and parking areas. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo be punctual when reporting for duty as scheduled by your supervisor.To follow all rules, regulations, and policies of the Grand Traverse Band.Must adhere to the confidentiality of each department where maintenance service is being performed.Inventory and order supplies or equipment to be used in the performance of duties.Must be able to perform all duties required of Housekeepers, which will include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying of wastebaskets, for all offices, bathrooms and break room areas.Shoveling of roofs of all Tribal Government buildings during the winter season.Must be able to change light bulbs inside and outside.Will clean or check light fixtures routinely.Under required supervision must be willing to perform basic electrical duties such as changing outlets, switches and changing ballasts.Under required supervision must be willing to perform basic plumbing such as toilet repair or replacement, running water or sewer lines.Under required supervision must be willing to perform basic carpentry skills such as hanging a door, repairing or replacing roofing, repairing or replacing drywall, repairing or replacing soffit or fascia.Under required supervision must be willing to learn basic HVAC such as replacing thermocouples or igniters in furnaces.Basic maintenance skills such as installing door hardware, hanging blinds, assembling furniture.Basic mechanical maintenance (both building mechanical systems and small engine) such as greasing gear, bushings and bearings, charging filters, switches and sparkplugs.Will be assigned daily projects or special assignments to be performed according to priority, availability of staff and availability to equipment and supplies. All assignments or projects will have a timeline for completion.Must be adept in the safe handling of all power tools.Move and set up furniture.Basic Lawn & Landscaping maintenance such as weed pulling, mowing lawns, planting flowers, week whacking, hedge trimming, etc.Shoveling snow and operating snow blowers.Raking leaves and operating riding lawn mowers and commercial lawn mowers.Assist with maintaining supplies and organization of supply area.Other duties as assigned by your supervisor that are appropriate for the position. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIESThe Utility Worker must be willing to provide assistance to other maintenance staff as needed or requested.Must be able to communicate clearly with co-workers and supervisor.Must follow OSHA rules and regulations.Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.Must have good work habits, i.e. punctuality and low absenteeism.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.Experience in commercial building maintenance preferred.Carpentry, plumbing and electrical repair experience preferred.Knowledge of safety procedures and safety equipment recommended for use during the course of duty. DRIVING REQUIREMENTSValid, unrestricted driver's license is preferred. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNone EQUIPMENT TO BE USEDFloor care products and floor care equipment.Shop vacuumsWindow cleaning equipmentPainting equipmentShovels and gardening toolsPruning toolsLawn mowers and commercial lawn mowersWeed whackersSnow removal equipmentPneumatic tools such as nailers, drills and grinders.Kubota Tractor front bucket and backhoeForklift and brush hogVarious hand tools TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDSBalance, dexterity and motor skills are essential to this position, climb ladders, etc. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.Shovel and remove show in winter weather, plant flowers, pruning and trimming trees and shrubbery in summer months.Must be agile and flexible enough to work in a confined area or space WORKING CONDITIONSMust be able to perform routine or preventive maintenance duties in all seasons of the year indoors or outdoors.Must be able to move from location to location as work assignments may be changed or prioritized by supervisor.Must be willing to work with other Technician levels or Housekeepers as part of a team approach to accomplish all tasks in a timely and efficient manner. COMMENTSNative American Preference will apply. Pass a criminal history background check with no felonies or serious misdemeanors and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment.
