PAM RN PRN Unit Based Tier II, Women's & Children (Peds)

Job Title

Under limited supervision, this role is responsible for the assessment of patients, including the development, evaluation, and modification of the plan of care. Provides care to those patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/technology, and other healthcare team members, according to established standards. Interprets and performs complex patient-care procedures specific to their area of expertise. Role functions as a member of the Care Team and Support Team and has accountability to function as a team to accomplish patient outcomes identified in the pathway and plan of care. Patients served include all age groups (Infant through Older Adult as identified in Performance Standards).

• Provides care of unit-specific and/or hospital-based patient population; independently practices with solid knowledge and clinical skills; engaged in advancing own practice. Utilizes and integrates evidence into practice.
• Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care. Accountable to peers for the advancement of group practice on the unit, and to the nurse manager for the totality of work performance.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs. Serves as clinical resource as needed.
• Participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
• Complies with standards and supports activities for regulatory compliance.
• Supports leader and charge nurse decisions. Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse as required.
• Models practice consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, patient-centered care.
• Follows and supports the AACN guidelines for Healthy Work Environment (communication, collaboration, effective decision-making, recognition, leadership, staffing); participates as a team member focusing on elements within the Healthy Work Environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department or unit patient safety initiatives.

• Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
• Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
• Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices, and communicates the same to those in charge.

Responsible for maintaining competencies required for the patient care setting; focuses on advancing own professional development. Solid knowledge and clinical skills.

• Ability to demonstrate versatility and willingness to work within the PRN RN Standardized Program as outlined in assigned Unit-Based or Hospital-Based commitment levels.

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland, or eligible to practice due to Compact state agreements outlined through the MD Board of Nursing, is required. BSN preferred. Current AHA BLS and ACLS certification required. Must meet all unit-specific certification requirements: (PALS, ACLS, NRP). Nurses not assigned to critical care areas are not required to obtain specialty life support certifications. Specialty life support certification may be required based on clinical area assignment and must be obtained within 6 months from the date of hire or completion of unit orientation. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills are required. Up-to-date status on all mandatory training and classes. More than one (1) year of nursing experience. Solid knowledge and clinical skills.

Compensation: PRN; Rotating - Womens & Childrens (Peds) -7a-730p / 7p-730a. Pay Range: $40/hr. (flat rate). Other Compensation (if applicable): Shift Differential. Review UMMS Benefits Overview.
