Overview ***$10,000 Sign on Bonus RN >1yr 3yr Commitment External applicants Only*** Position Highlights: CT7B Advanced Care Unit Details Number of beds on unit: 24 Patient population: The Advanced Care Unit is a 24‑bed unit specializing in the care of acutely unstable patients that do not meet criteria for Intensive Care status but still require frequent, advanced assessments and interventions. Specific patient populations or conditions include complex multi‑trauma, uncompensated sepsis, continuous non‑invasive ventilation, stroke, complicated withdrawal from alcohol or other recreational drugs, and DKA. The unit also includes an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) where patients with seizure‑like events can be safely taken off medication to purposefully induce events and provide vital information to the Epilepsy Team. Registered Nurse to Patient ratio: 1:3 Department culture and resources: The advanced care unit is fast‑paced, team‑oriented, working closely with physician partners and ancillary team members. It has a robust Partnership Committee, a unit‑based educator, a quality outcomes coordinator, 2 nurse supervisors and charge nurses. Frequent nursing skills/equipment used: Minimum Q4 hour full RN assessments, Minimum Q2 hour vital signs, Continuous cardiac monitoring by primary RN, Foley/IV/NG insertions, arterial line/central line/chest tube monitoring and care, IV pumps, feeding pumps, lift equipment. Common IV drips: amiodarone, diltiazem, insulin for DKA, dobutamine, heparin, octreotide. Qualifications Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA) Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Education: High School Diploma or GED Work experience: Experience in a critical care or advanced care environment is required. Responsibilities Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as applicable to the scope of service. Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care to assure integration of information for the healthcare team. Complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and patient/family needs. Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modify plan of care based on continuous assessment, ensuring patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicate with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues. Offer constructive feedback to peers and confere with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identify own learning needs and take initiative for appropriate solutions. Fulfill all departmental competency requirements. Monitor EMU patients 24/7 for seizure activity. Ensure good communication with patients/family through meaningful hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and whiteboards. Collaborate with critical care and hospitalist teams for advanced care patients. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $35.22 per hour – $60.58 per hour. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
