Mechanical Project Engineer - Tunnel Ventilation and Fire life Safety

Overview We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer III to join our New York City office. The role focuses on tunnel ventilation and fire & life safety for tunnels, highways, transit, and rail projects. Responsibilities Perform fan capacity and pressure calculations. Calculate smoke and heat movement in underground environments. Conduct egress calculations and establish design parameters for tunnel ventilation, standpipe, deluge, and related fire protection systems. Generate design drawings, specifications, and technical reports, including feasibility studies and basis of design reports. Lead and mentor team members on engineering tasks and coordinate with clients and partners on multi‑discipline projects. Support project planning, budget, and schedule compliance, and assist with proposal generation and scope development. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s or PhD preferred). PE license or FE certification with intent to become PE. 5–15 years of relevant engineering experience. Preferred Experience Proficiency using Subway Environment Simulation (SES), IDA Tunnels, CFD (FLUENT or FDS), and tunnel rehab or new tunnel design.
