Job Description

The Process Operator safely operates and monitors UHT process equipment and automated industrial systems in a food manufacturing environment while maintaining strict compliance with GMP, SOP, and SQF standards. This role combines processing and packaging responsibilities, including operating automation systems, production machinery, and powered industrial trucks, to ensure products consistently meet high quality and food safety requirements. The Process Operator maintains a clean and sanitary work area, follows detailed procedures, and supports continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency.

2nd. shift: 2:30pm to 11pm Monday to Friday (sometime saturdays)

Responsibilities

• Operate UHT process equipment and automation systems as trained, including processing machines and powered industrial trucks, in accordance with all GMP, SOP, and SQF standards.
• Safely work with automated industrial equipment, including set-up, operation, changeover, and basic maintenance activities.
• Monitor production processes to ensure product quality and food safety meet or exceed internal and customer requirements.
• Report all food safety and quality issues promptly to the appropriate supervisor or quality technician.
• Immediately report any safety issues to the supervisor, maintenance, or management and support corrective actions.
• Take responsibility for the overall safety, quality, and efficiency of the assigned work center.
• Maintain a neat, sanitary, and organized work area at all times, following established cleaning and housekeeping standards.
• Adhere to all dress code and personal protective equipment policies, including required hair nets and safety gear.
• Demonstrate the ability to operate, monitor, and understand the control system and production computer screens.
• Perform manual labor tasks, including lifting and moving materials up to 75 pounds, as part of daily production activities.
• Follow detailed written and verbal instructions, system procedures, and training materials and execute tasks accurately.
• Use production computer systems and scanning technology to record data, track materials, and support batch and production documentation.
• Complete required skill assessments with passing scores as defined by company policy and maintain required training, including SQF, GMP, and SOP training.
• Cross-train on Level 2 equivalent work in both processing and packaging as business needs arise, and perform all job functions pertinent to the process line position.
• Support batching, bagging, and general food production activities, ensuring correct handling of ingredients and materials.
• Operate sit-down forklifts and other material handling equipment safely when required, following all safety procedures.
• Work overtime when mandated in accordance with applicable contracts and production demands.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by management to support production, safety, and quality objectives.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience working in a highly intensive and physical work environment, preferably in a manufacturing GMP setting.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in a GMP/SOP environment, including wearing hair nets, safety glasses, and other required protective equipment.
• Capability to perform manual labor, including lifting up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
• Good attendance record and reliability, with an attendance record in good standing (less than 5 points).
• Basic computer literacy and the ability to use production computer screens and operating systems as instructed.
• Ability to learn and use computer systems and scanning technology for production and tracking purposes.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow system instructions, SOPs, and training materials, and to execute tasks accordingly.
• Ability to work quickly and maintain productivity while meeting quality and safety standards.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime when required by business needs.
• Demonstrated prior experience directly relevant to production, processing, or machine operation in a similar environment.
• Ability to safely operate automated industrial equipment and powered industrial trucks (such as sit-down forklifts) after training.
• Commitment to following all CGMP, HAACP, and food safety policies and procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in food production, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
• Experience in bagging, batching, and general production operations.
• Experience as a machine operator or production operator in a GMP-compliant facility.
• Comfort working in a unionized environment with established processes and policies.
• Basic math skills to support batching, measurements, and production calculations.
• Experience with computer operation in a production setting, including use of control systems and production screens.
• Completion of SQF training, GMP training, and SOP training (or willingness to complete these trainings).
• Ability to pass required company physical examinations.
• Willingness to cross-train on Level 2 processing and packaging tasks and to move between roles as needed.
• Strong safety awareness and a proactive approach to identifying and reporting safety, quality, and food safety issues.

Work Environment

This role is based in a food manufacturing environment that fully complies with CGMP and HAACP guidelines. Work takes place on a production floor that is not climate controlled, so conditions can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Team members must adhere to all CGMP policies, including wearing appropriate hair netting, no jewelry, and following strict hygiene and sanitation standards. Work boots are required as part of the dress code, along with other personal protective equipment such as hair nets and safety glasses as specified by company policy. The position involves working around automated industrial equipment, UHT processing systems, and production machinery, with a focus on safety and cleanliness. Standard shifts run Monday through Friday, with first shift from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., second shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and third shift from 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. For the second shift mixer operator, initial training occurs on third shift (10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.) for 8 to 10 weeks before transitioning to second shift. Overtime may be required based on production needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pennsauken, NJ.

The pay range for this position is $25.34 - $25.34/hr.
