Early Childhood Teacher

Terms of employment: 10 month employee - temporary if hired after contractual start date for teachers. Reports to: Building Principal. Salary: Current teacher salary schedule. Minimum qualifications: Current or eligible to hold Delaware certification as an Early Childhood special education teacher. Experience with students who have moderate to severe disabilities is essential.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Teach students with disabilities.
• Plan a program of study that meets the individual need, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide reports as required, as well as notifying parents of student progress when necessary.
• Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical demands include:

• Use hand and/or fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
• Stand, walk, and sit.
• Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Standard requirements include:

• Favorable criminal background check and child abuse registry check for the candidate who is offered employment.
• Tuberculin test and physical.
• Mandatory direct deposit of paycheck.
