They are responsible for preparing for procedures and assisting the operative team, including preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies. They create and maintain a sterile field. They inspect sterile items for contamination before opening. They anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins. They assure all equipment is functioning before use. They operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to the manufacturer's instructions. They scrub all surgical procedures and understand the special needs, techniques, and requirements of the individual surgeon. They have the ability to scrub specialty surgeries without the presence of a sales representative, including sports medicine and trauma. They assist RN with the completion of operative charge and recording of hardware used during the procedure. They collect specimens and cultures by verifying the source and correct tissue identification with the surgeon. They are detail-oriented, collaborative team players, and excellent communicators. They are cooperative and thorough.
