Job Summary This position plays a key role in supporting the integration, coordination, and implementation of enterprise-wide business continuity and emergency management programs. This position partners with internal and external teams to establish strategies, goals, and performance expectations while enhancing organizational readiness and resilience. The role is designed for a motivated professional who is energized by meaningful, mission-focused work and brings curiosity, sound judgment, and initiative to complex challenges. Successful candidates will be comfortable solving problems with minimal supervision, applying foundational concepts to varied and moderately complex assignments, and translating program performance, risks, and outcomes into clear insights for leadership. Individuals will operate with minimal Supervision: Implement company business continuity or emergency management program processes (training, plan development, exercises, other) Support building, training, developing Incident Response Team response processes and capabilities Perform internal/ external reporting Develop guidance and provide consultation to the organization on business continuity and emergency management program management, metrics, continual improvement and internal reporting. Support other department initiatives, such as the identification and management of emerging business continuity/ emergency management issues and deployment of associated plans Assist in emergency response/ mitigation actions during incidents which disrupt business operations Basic/Required Qualifications Business Continuity and Emergency Management Specialist – Associates degree 1-year related work experience In lieu of Associates degree(s) AND 1 year(s) related work experience listed above, Technical AND 2 year(s) related work experience Senior Business Continuity and Emergency Management Specialist – Bachelors degree 4 years related work experience In lieu of Bachelors degree(s) AND 4 year(s) related work experience listed above, High School/GED AND 6 year(s) related work experience Associate Emergency Manager (AEM) within 1 year Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) within 1 year Desired Qualifications Masters Degree, Field of Study: Emergency Management Proficient in project management theories and principles. Proficient in practices of planning, data analysis, evaluating alternatives, and preparing and presenting recommendations. Associate Emergency Manager or ability to obtain within one year. Certified Business Continuity Planner, or ability to obtain within one year. Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Very good written and oral communication skills. Very good problem solving and analysis skills. Demonstrated leadership skills. Additional Preferred Qualifications Broad knowledge in electric or gas utility operations (electric distribution / transmission, power generation plant, gas operations, etc.). Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with multiple internal departments and external stakeholders. Demonstrated experience serving on business continuity or incident / emergency management teams. Demonstrated experience utilizing FEMA Incident Command System principles or training. Knowledge of project management principles. Knowledge of Change management principles. Working Conditions Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
