Instrumentation Technologist I Job Summary: The Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking a dedicated, hardworking, and self-motivated CT Technologist who is enthusiastic about advancing both clinical care and imaging-based research. As part of the WIMR Imaging Medical Services team, this individual will play a key role in translating innovative CT imaging science into high-quality patient care, supporting UW Radiology's mission of discovery, education, and excellence in clinical service. In this role, the CT Technologist will perform a broad range of responsibilities, including conducting daily research and standard-of-care clinical CT examinations, supporting advanced CT imaging protocols, and managing data associated with CT research studies. The position also involves educating, training, and supporting researchers on CT scanner operations and imaging techniques, assisting with research billing and documentation, and ensuring compliance with radiation safety standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies. This role requires close collaboration with faculty, investigators, and clinical teams to support safe, efficient, and high-quality imaging across both clinical and research environments. Compensation: The starting salary for hire into the Instrumentation Technologist I title is $68,000 and the starting salary for hire into the Instrumentation Tech II title is $79,000. Actual pay is determined at hire and is based on experience and qualifications. Additional Job Details:
- This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.
- Typical work hours for this position are 8:00am to 4:30pm with the understanding that shifts may adjust slightly based on departmental needs to ensure appropriate coverage for both clinical and research imaging services. Exact hours will be discussed upon the time of hire.
- This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every two years.
- Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles; Instrumentation Technologist I, Instrumentation Tech II. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.
- Answers questions and provides technical information regarding instrumentation to staff, researchers, clients, and students
- Develops, integrates, tests, and modifies sophisticated scientific equipment to support research/clinical initiatives and unit directives
- Assists with the preparation of grant proposals and applicable documentation
- Designs, plans, and performs preventative and reactive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation
- Investigates new research processes and technology solutions in collaboration with research/clinical staff, students, and clients
- Provides technical expertise to staff, researchers, clients, and students in the installation and use of equipment and instruments, exercising discretion and independent judgment to meet unit goals
- Responsible for conducting daily research and clinical CT procedures while maintaining compliance with radiation safety regulations, research policies and HIPAA guidelines.
