You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for managing environmental programs associated with USCG Base Boston andtenant unit operations and to assist in the management of the Environmental Compliance Program throughout the facility..

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Assists the on-site Environmental Protection Specialist, GS-11/12, with safety programs, hazardous material/hazardous waste (HM/HW)management, and emergency preparedness.
• assists in the day-to-day management for pollution spill prevention/response and serving as back-up for the Hazardous Materials Minimization (HazMin) Center.
• Manages one or more environmental programs, such as Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Pollution Prevention Act, Toxic Substance Control Act, Solid Waste Management Act or Clean Water Act and Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).
• Manages and maintains programs, policies and procedures concerning hazardous materials, waste streams, pest management, asbestos, lead based paint and environmental protection.
• Maintains working knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations for assigned programs.
• Prepares written plans, and schedules and provides milestones for accomplishing program goals.

The COR training and certification will be coordinated by the USCG upon hiring.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-9 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

• Experience managing and maintaining programs, policies and procedures concerning hazardous materials, waste streams, pest management, asbestos, lead based paint and environmental protection.
• Experience conducting or assisting in on-site inspections to document conditions, identify problems and initiate corrective action in order to ensure compliance with program requirements.
• Experience managing the hazardous materials and solid waste programs to ensure compliance with environmental regulation and requirements for a large quantity generator facility.

Student Loan - Selectee(s) for this position who are newly appointed to a permanent or term position may be eligible for student loan repayment up to 10% of salary for one calendar year.
