Summary In addition to the current opening, this recruitment may be used to establish a pool of qualified candidates to fill future Water Quality Planner/Project Manager IV positions throughout the Department of Natural Resources & Parks (DNRP) over the next six months. About The Role As the Lakes Program Supervisor, you will lead King County’s long‑term water‑quality monitoring program for Lake Washington, Lake Sammamish, and Lake Union while supervising a team of approximately 4–6 environmental scientists. Supervise and mentor a team of 4–6 scientists, managing staffing, performance, onboarding, and training. Develop and manage long‑term scientific monitoring programs and special studies. Design and implement applied research, analyze data, and produce technical reports suitable for publication. Establish partnerships with regional agencies, universities, and stakeholder groups. Ensure data management systems are open and reproducible. Provide strategic direction and support evidence‑based environmental policy. Qualifications You Bring At least a Bachelor’s of Science in environmental sciences, engineering, biology, earth sciences, or a related field. People‑leader experience in supervision or project leadership. Ability to design and oversee scientific studies, including experimental design, sampling schedules, QA/QC, and statistical approaches. Experience writing technical reports, peer‑reviewed papers, and management summaries. Strong communication skills and strategic mindset. Additional Qualifications Specialized coursework or degree in limnology or >10 years of lake ecosystem experience. Experience with aquatic food web dynamics and scientific modeling. Experience advising policymakers and translating findings into recommendations. Experience developing and writing scientific grant proposals. Experience representing an agency on multi‑jurisdictional working groups. Working Conditions Hybrid model: some days in office (King Street Center, 201 S. Jackson St, Seattle), some remote; remote boundaries require residence in Washington state. Full‑time, 40‑hour week, exempt from overtime. Union representation: Teamsters Local 117. Physical requirements: field inspections, walking on uneven terrain, carrying up to 50 lb, water work, and ability to work long hours outdoors.
