Heating Air Conditioning Technician

A leading manufacturer in the Buffalo area is seeking a HVAC Technician to join their facilities team. This role is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing critical facility utility and HVAC systems, including boilers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, and air handling equipment. Duties and Responsibilities: Operate, monitor, and maintain facility utility and HVAC systems, including steam boilers, water chillers, air compressors, pumps, and air handling equipment. Utilize Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor equipment performance, respond to alarms, and identify abnormal operating conditions. Perform preventive maintenance through established schedules and CMMS, including inspections, filter and belt replacement, lubrication, and routine equipment maintenance. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC, mechanical, and utility system issues. Replace defective components, verify proper equipment operation, and return systems to service. Support the site's water treatment program by conducting routine testing, monitoring water quality, and maintaining chemical inventory. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, equipment documentation, and operating procedures. Maintain accurate maintenance records, operating logs, inspection reports, and electronic work orders. Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues and support facility operations. Follow all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices. Operate aerial work platforms, boom lifts, and other powered access equipment as required. Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for critical facility utility systems and emergency equipment outages. Job Requirements: High school diploma or GED required. Technical, vocational, military, or trade school training in HVAC, industrial maintenance, mechanical systems, or a related field preferred. 5+ years of commercial or industrial HVAC, facility maintenance, boiler operations, chiller operations, or mechanical systems maintenance experience preferred. EPA Refrigerant Certification, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months. NYSDEC 7G Pesticide Certification, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months. Working knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC systems and related mechanical equipment. Strong troubleshooting and repair skills involving HVAC and facility utility systems. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation. Familiarity with BMS and CMMS platforms. Basic knowledge of boiler and cooling tower water treatment programs. Proficiency with standard computer applications and electronic maintenance records. Experience working in an OSHA-regulated environment and following formal Lockout/Tagout procedures. Experience operating aerial work platforms or boom lifts, such as JLG or Genie Lift, preferred. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Ability to work safely in industrial and laboratory facility environments. Ability to walk facility grounds and construction sites for extended periods and lift, carry, and move materials as required.
