Process co‑pays and schedule patient appointments for assigned center. Coordinate provider referrals to assigned specialists. Answer patient questions regarding their care and keep them informed of their status. Inform technical staff of patient flow. Prepare patients for examination, including conducting interviews to verify patient information and record medical history. Perform preliminary physical tests (blood pressure, weight, temperature, etc.) for vital signs and escalate critical cases to provider as needed. Conduct point‑of‑care testing as needed (flu, strep, urinalysis, ECG, HCG) and provide patient information to provider. Maintain supplies and maintenance of exam rooms, front desk, and reception area; ensure providers have medical supplies needed. Complete order sheets to maintain supply inventory levels; regularly check expiration dates on supplies. Maintain medical records and scan charts to patient files. Answer phone calls, collect and sort daily incoming and outgoing postal correspondence. Ensure reception is well maintained. Conduct courtesy call‑backs for patient follow‑up. Perform opening and closing duties, including cashing out, end‑of‑day communication, and securing the building. Follow operating instructions to perform and document daily controls and calibration of equipment; maintain QA/QC logs for equipment troubleshooting, perform preventive maintenance, and submit repair tickets as needed. All other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education High School Diploma – required Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program – preferred Work Experience 1 year of Medical Assistant experience – required Front Desk experience – preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) – required at time of hire (obtained through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association) Certification Requirements One of the following certifications is required for candidates with less than three years of Medical Assistant experience: CCMA – Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA – National Healthcareer Association) CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA – American Association of Medical Assistants OR CHP – Certified Health Professionals) RMA – Registered Medical Assistant (AMT – American Medical Technologists OR AAH – American Allied Health OR ARMA – American Registry of Medical Assistants) NCMA – National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT – National Center for Competency Testing) NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP – National Association for Health Professionals) Certification Alternatives In lieu of an approved MA certification, candidates may qualify with the following: Experience‑Based Pathway 3+ years of Medical Assistant work experience AND 1+ year of experience in a hospital, emergency room, or urgent care setting Note: Candidates hired without an approved MA certification must obtain one within 6 months of their start date to remain eligible for continued employment as a Certified Medical Assistant. Alternative Credentials (accepted at time of hire) Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, LPN, or RN EMT – Emergency Medical Technician (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) Paramedic (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians) CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant Additional Requirements CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification – must be obtained within two weeks of start date. Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required Basic Medical Assistant duties Ability to type quickly, basic computer knowledge Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel Detail oriented, able to rely on experience and judgment to perform a variety of tasks, participate in a team, and accomplish goals Exceptional written and verbal communication skills Able to interact and treat all persons with fairness, respect and sensitivity to cultural/social differences This job description is not inclusive of all the duties of the position.
