About This Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic pre-K teacher to guide a classroom of young children in a variety of educational activities, including arts and crafts, free play, storytelling, and class outings. Your primary responsibility is to teach them the fundamental concepts they need to know for kindergarten, such as identifying numbers and letters, socializing well with others, and working effectively in a classroom structure.
Patience, compassion, and energy are all vital qualities of a successful pre-K teacher. You should be capable of inspiring, encouraging, and developing young children, each of whom will have different abilities, challenges, and personalities. The top candidates will also have a creative mindset and good administrative skills, in order to plan and execute lessons that are memorable, innovative, and achieve the desired learning outcomes.
What You'll Do- General Responsibilities- Lead Teachers will do the following: Observe and assess children's development, Plan early learning experiences, with parent input based on child development knowledge and maintain knowledge of lesson plans and emergent learning experiences, Design the learning environment, implement and supervise developmentally appropriate learning activities, Plan guidance strategies for children, involve parents in the education of their child, Maintain child's records and data information on CCNet, a proprietary computer-based record-keeping system used by the City of Seattle Human Services Department, Conduct parent-teacher conferences and document information, Principal Duties and Responsibilities- Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of TTDC.
- Gear the program to the needs of individual children with concerns for their interests, handicaps, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
- Consider individual children in relation to their cultural and socioeconomic background.
- Treat children with dignity and respect.
- Plan and implement appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, etc.
- Supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child enrolled at the Center.
- Supervise upkeep of all educational equipment and materials in assigned area.
- Eat all meals with the children and encourage the development of sound nutritional practices.
- Help children to become aware of their roles as integral members of a group.
- Maintain progress records of each child's growth and development, prepare periodic reports, and review with Director and parents.
- Work with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development; encourage parent participation in school programs; attend parent group and Center functions; conduct conferences on request.
- Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centers.
- Assume an equal share of the joint cleaning responsibilities for their classroom.
- Attend all staff meetings. Plan and implement one staff training meeting each school year.
- Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth, maintaining current knowledge of early childhood practice.
- Effectively train, supervise, and utilize classroom assistants and primary floaters.
- Conduct parent conferences on each child's school adjustment, classroom behavior, and developmental progress.
- Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents. Communicate frequently with parents informally, with periodic notes and verbal communication as well as a Parent Letter if needed.
- Assist in public-relations events sponsored by the school.
- Supervise all activities to ensure safety at all times.
- Prepare daily attendance reports for children in assigned groups.
- Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist with toilet training as needed.
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the Center at all times.
- Participate in professional organizations that work for the improvement of early childhood education.

- Provide nurturing while at the same time assisting in the development of independence.
- Provide appropriate, positive, and consistent discipline always remembering the dignity of the children
- Create and maintain a regular plan and schedule of activities and educational opportunities, as directed by the supervisor Communication and Documentation:
- Perform as a mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect per RCW 26.44.020 (18)
- Complete and submit accurate progress reports on children within your care with consistency and regularity Monitor and document children's milestones, and progress using effective, appropriate evaluation and frequent recording procedures.

- Collaboration:
- maintain a regular work schedule as determined by the direct supervisor
- Assume other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Provide guidance and instruction to Assistant Teachers working within your direct supervision
- Work to ensure the success of the family plan as identified by case-management
- Work cooperatively as a member of a team, and assume responsibilities as determined necessary for the benefit of children in the program
- Support and assist other staff members
- Professional Growth:
- Conduct self-evaluation with supervisor
- Attend staff training and meetings
- Pursue further education and training
- Must be at least eighteen years of age
- State Background check
- Prior experience working with young children, preferably within a similar setting.
- First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens training within one month of hire.
- TB test
- Documentation of MMR vaccine or immunity to measles
- Warm, approachable disposition.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Attend required training, sometimes after hours.
- A passion for early childhood development.
- Must have a warm and friendly personality,
- be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others,
- be able to relate well to children,
- and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Center's program and philosophy.
- Must be physically able to perform job duties
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 70 pounds. In accordance with the ADA and TTDC policy of non-discrimination and the principle of equal opportunity, decisions to hire persons with disabilities will be made on a case-by-case basis within the framework of essential job-related functions.
- Minimum Educational Requirement- 12 ECE credit hours. One year of related education (early childhood education, etc.) is highly desirable. STARS training is highly desirable. Further Education will be required.
- a degree (Associates or above) in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or equivalent, with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits, OR
- A valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-Grade 3) or Early Childhood Special Education.
