Job Description
The Mechanical Technician builds, assembles, modifies, and tests prototypes that support new product development, proof-of-concept work, and engineering validation. This role works closely with engineering and product teams to refine designs, improve manufacturability and reliability, and ensure products meet performance and serviceability expectations. The technician documents prototype builds, test results, and recommended design changes while assisting with new product introductions by updating inventory, tooling, fixtures, and production processes.
Responsibilities

• Build, assemble, and modify mechanical and electromechanical prototypes for new product development, proof-of-concept projects, and engineering validation.
• Set up and execute tests on prototypes to evaluate performance, reliability, and functionality against engineering requirements.
• Support rapid design iteration by refining and reworking prototypes based on test results, engineering feedback, and observed performance issues.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to improve manufacturability, reliability, performance, and serviceability of new designs.
• Document prototype builds, including configurations, components used, and any deviations from design specifications.
• Record testing outcomes, measurements, and observations in a clear and organized manner, and communicate results to engineering.
• Develop and document recommended design improvements based on testing, troubleshooting, and hands-on evaluation.
• Assist with new product introductions by modifying existing inventory, tooling, fixtures, and production processes to support production readiness.
• Use hand tools, basic machining, and fabrication methods to build, adjust, and repair prototype assemblies and components.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics to correctly assemble and troubleshoot prototypes and equipment.
• Perform mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting and repair on machines and prototype systems as issues arise.
• Support preventive maintenance and maintenance repair tasks on equipment used in prototyping and production support.
• Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, prioritizing work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following established procedures and best practices.
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to provide feedback on designs, build issues, and process improvements.

Essential Skills

• 2\u20133 years of experience in prototyping or mechanical support.
• Experience in manufacturing, product development, or research and development (R&D) preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven hands-on technical skills.
• Experience with prototyping tools, fabrication methods, and basic machining or assembly.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Ability to read and work from mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Experience using hand tools for assembly, adjustment, and repair work.
• Mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience in mechanical repair and troubleshooting.
• Experience in electrical maintenance and machine repair.
• Background in preventive maintenance and maintenance repair activities.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a technical environment.
• Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills for working with engineering and product teams.

Work Environment
This role operates in a very clean, air-conditioned, temperature-controlled facility that supports advanced automated wellness and spray technology products. The primary schedule is a first shift, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime available and occasional Saturdays as needed. Some schedules may run 10-hour days, four days per week from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., providing a condensed workweek option. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and cleanliness, with access to prototyping tools, hand tools, fixtures, and production equipment. The facility maintains a professional yet flexible atmosphere, with a family-focused culture and regular employee appreciation activities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Macedonia, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $31.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
