Emergency Department Patient Care Technician

This Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment that cares for approximately 140-150 patients each day. Utilizing a team nursing model, Patient Care Technicians partner closely with nurses and paramedics to provide exceptional patient care and support throughout the department. In addition to standard ER PCT responsibilities, team members have the opportunity to develop advanced skills such as straight sticks, splinting, and trauma support through comprehensive on-the-job training. PCTs rotate through a variety of roles, including direct patient care, unit support responsibilities, and, with advanced training, trauma tech functions. This position is ideal for nursing students, EMTs, aspiring firefighters, future PAs, and individuals pursuing trauma-related healthcare careers who are looking to gain experience in a high-acuity setting. Prior emergency department experience is strongly preferred but not required, as extensive training and development are provided. Candidates seeking exposure to complex patient care, trauma services, and a collaborative multidisciplinary team will find exceptional growth opportunities within this dynamic emergency department.

This position is a full-time Night shift working with 3-12 hour shifts from 7:00 PM–7:30 AM. We offer self-scheduling for shift and weekend coverage. Scheduled workdays may vary, as there are no set or fixed days. Weekend and Holiday Rotations are required in this role. Weekend shift differentials are offered, along with evening and night shift differentials where applicable.

Responsibilities

Job Summary Provides patient related care tasks based on the principles of growth and development across the life span of patients served in his/her independent unit. Assists, observes, and reports patient changes to licensed caregiver and maintains accurate medical record documentation relative to the care delivered. Essential Functions

• Provides and collaborates direct patient care services under the direct supervisor of a licensed caregiver. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to personal care, activities of daily living, vital signs, intake and output, ambulation, interventions, and implementation of selected portions of the patient care plan as directed under supervisor of nurse.
• Assists, observes and reports changes in patient condition to licensed caregiver and maintains accurate medical record documentation in relation to the care delivered.
• Addresses and/or directs questions or concerns from patients, families, caregivers, or health care team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED - Required

Experience

• Completion of Block 1 in Nursing OR Medical Assistant (MA) OR Nursing Assistant (NA) OR Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) OR 6 months of experience in the healthcare setting within the last year - Required
• 6 months in acute care experience. - Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Preferred
• Clinical Other\EMT - Emergency Medical Tech - Preferred
