Assistant Director of Nursing

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Assistant Director of Nursing to join our team at Warr Acres Nursing Center. As a key member of our Nursing Services department, you will assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing the overall operations of the department in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services department

• Interpret and communicate policies and procedures to nursing staff and monitor staff practices and implementation

• Participate in all admission decisions and daily/weekly management team meetings

• Evaluate the work performance of all nursing personnel and implement discipline according to operational policies

• Participate in QAPI or facility assessment activities, such as performance improvement committees

• Ensure delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on the units, general cleanliness, and maintaining optimal resident functions

• Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify and resolve issues and improve the quality of services

• Assist with oversight of nursing schedules to ensure resident needs, regulatory, and budget standards are met

Requirements:

• A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing home, or other related healthcare facility

• Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the practicing state

• Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long-term care

• Current CPR certification

• Establish a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures, complying with standards of business conduct, state/federal regulations, and guidelines

• Follow appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents and oneself

• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications

• Report noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel

Skills and Traits Desired:

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language

• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

• Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public

• Leadership, supervisory ability, and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel

• Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position

• Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations

Working Conditions:

• Work in an office and throughout the nursing services areas

• Subject to frequent interruptions

• Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors

• May work beyond normal working hours and on weekends, holidays when necessary
