CLASSIFICATION: Full-time Exempt

COMPENSATION RANGE: $69.57 - 81.80 p/h (commensurate with experience)

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW:

Pacific Cancer Care (PCC) is seeking an organized and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Monterey team. The Charge RN is responsible for the oversight and coordination of patient care in the infusion center. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, skilled in oncology nursing, and able to communicate effectively with patients, providers, and team members across all communications mediums.

ESSENTIAL ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinates and directs the daily operations of the infusion team
• Supervises staff and facilitates communication with physicians and internal administrators to provide optimal patient care.
• Is recognized as a change agent and routinely leads efforts to strengthen organizational systems that support the mission, vision, and values.
• Provides and coordinates the resources needed within the unit to provide optimal patient outcomes.
• Leads and coordinates team behavior between staff members and actively fosters the development of leadership skills in others.
• Takes a leadership role in building and maintaining an environment which fosters open and professional communication.
• Actively participates in preparation of regulatory agency reviews.
• Supports administrative decisions and facilitates daily operational issues with the staff.
• Aware of and supports units and colleagues needs through supportive and non-judgmental behaviors.
• Identifies, recognizes and responds to the needs of unit staff to ensure that staff has the resources and tools available to meet patient and family needs.
• Takes appropriate action to address patient concerns (i.e., appropriate follow-up with others).
• Administers performance reviews of direct reports
• Contribute to our safe, healthy, harmonious, positive, productive and professional work environment and culture.
• Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and biotherapy medications by multiple routes, insertion of peripheral IV's, management of central access devices, patient assessment, symptom management and patient and caregiver education.

DESIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS and QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of Accredited Nursing Program, BSN preferred.
• Current California RN license
• Current certification in BLS and/or ALS
• ONS Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Provider Card preferred (required within 1 year of employment)
• OCN preferred
• Previous Oncology Nursing experience preferred.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE and COMPETENCIES:

• Knowledge of chemotherapeutic/biologic agents.
• Assessment skills with a strong understanding of common side effects and supportive care measures.
• IV insertion skills and experience with management/troubleshooting a variety of central access devices.
• Leadership and supervisory experience in performance management
• Time management and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical Records.
• Excellent communication skills
• Demonstrates insight, judgment, and clinically sound risk-taking. Role models expert communication skills to colleagues through example.
• Role models time management skills through example.
• Demonstrates foresight regarding the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes based on intuition and experience.
• Exhibits desire to hear and understand another's point of view.

PHYSICAL FACTORS/REQUIREMENTS :

The physical abilities required of this position may include but are not limited to the following:

• Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents throughout the shift
• Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person
• Motor skills sufficient to handle, use or operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, telephone, needles, IV,
• Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of hand held tools and to manipulate single sheets of paper and/or file materials
• Physical ability to reach, lift, and bend to retrieve and/or file materials
• Physical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary at work post for long periods of time
• Physical ability to lift and carry 20 lbs.
• Physical ability to walk up and down one flight of stairs and between patient
