The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2024-2025 academic year, we enrolled over 45,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% as Black/African American, 14% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. Fresno City College is both a Hispanic-Serving Institution and Black-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of a curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
In conjunction with Co-Instructor/Coordinator, the Instructor/Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of an early learning program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children that serves as a laboratory school for future educators on the campus of Fresno City College. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about high quality early childhood education and experienced in early care and education leadership and program administration. Specifically, the instructor/coordinator will be responsible for:
- Administering the daily requirements of the Child Development Center;
- Assisting in the planning, coordinating, directing and supervising the activities and staff of the Child Development Center;
- Administering the requirements and maintaining all state, local, and federal categorical grant programs, preparation of applications for child care funding, and early child care and education program management;
- Supervising/coordinating the laboratory experience of child development students in a developmentally appropriate demonstration site environment for preschool and toddler age children;
- Developing program goals for children, parents, and students;
- Enrolling children, maintaining appropriate records on children, staff, and students in compliance with District requirements, licensing regulations and other legal and regulatory provisions;
- Communicating with parents, staff and administrators related to Center operations and student progress;
- Discussing issues or concerns with parents;
- Training, supervising, evaluating and directing the work of the Center staff; Coordinating and supporting relationships for inclusion, with collaborating "on site" agencies;
- Coordinating and conducting staff meetings and in-service training;
- Ensuring availability of appropriate materials and equipment for staff and children's use;
- Assuring maintenance of a physical environment that conforms to the State Department of Social Services licensing standards of health and safety;
- Conducting Center inspections to assure compliance;
- Supervising the Child and Adult Care Food Program;
- Participating in appropriate professional development activities;
- Participating in institutional activities including staff development;
- Meeting regularly with discipline/division peers;
- Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed; Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
- Participating on community advisory committees related to early care and education initiatives;
- Preparing grant proposals for external funding to support center operations;
- Teaching developmental and transfer level Child Development courses as assigned;
- Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed,
- Learning and applying emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner;
- Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; and
- Master's in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; or
- Bachelor's in any of the above and master's in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; or
- A valid California Community College Credential; or
- The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Note: Special requirements include a California Child Development Program's Director's Permit (or be able to obtain a permit within 6 months of hire). Desirable Qualifications:- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
- Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
- Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
- Related work and professional experience;
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
- Demonstrated ability to work with computers, and other technologies, which are utilized in providing high-quality instruction and support to students;
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
- Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals;
- Extent of experience teaching and administering in licensed early care and education programs;
- Knowledge of Child Development, Early Childhood Curriculum, inclusive practice, teaching methods and techniques;
- Knowledge of online teaching, or online teaching certification;
- Knowledge of applicable State Department of Human Services licensing regulations, child care food programs, health and safety regulations, state, local and federal categorical grant programs, preparation of applications for child care funding, and early child care and education program management;
- Knowledge and experience and preparation with Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC), National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Accreditation, & Community Care Licensing;
- Ability to navigate various agreements with collaborating agencies;
- Knowledge of Multilingual Learner strategies for young children and adults;
- Knowledge of Class Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) Observation tool;
- Knowledge and experience administering California Department of Social Services California State Pre School Program (CSPP) and General Child Care and Development (CCTR) contracts; and
- Experience collaborating with community partners.
210 duty days per year. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment. Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $71,054 - $108,772 based on education and experience. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher's Retirement System (CalSTRS). Selection Procedure:

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
