Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer

The Common Good is seeking a visionary, entrepreneurial, and community-centered leader to serve as our next Chief Executive Officer. Based in Northwest Tulsa, the Chief Executive Officer will be the driving force behind our mission to create pathways of opportunity and healing for students and families. As the chief executive, you will bridge the gap between grassroots community impact and strategic growth. You will lead a dedicated team of over 30 professionals, manage a growing $2M+ budget, and serve as the primary ambassador to our Board, donors, and municipal partners. This is a unique opportunity for a "builder" who is equally comfortable in a board room discussing multi-million dollar capital strategies as they are on the ground in our local schools and community centers. Key Priorities for the First Year Fundraising Momentum: Scale our private revenue to $2.5M to meet the growing needs of the Northwest Tulsa community. Cultural Leadership: Solidify a unified, trauma-informed culture across our diverse full-time and part-time staff. Strategic Partnerships: Deepen our "transformational" rather than "transactional" relationships with Tulsa Public Schools and municipal leaders. People & Culture Organizational Leadership: Directly lead and mentor a diverse team of 9 full-time and 25 part-time staff, fostering a culture of professional growth, high engagement, and long-term retention. Cultural Stewardship: Cultivate an inclusive, collaborative workplace environment that mirrors the organization’s core values and promotes a shared sense of purpose. Community Impact Programmatic Excellence: Partner with the program team to oversee the delivery of high-impact community center initiatives in deep collaboration with K-12 school partners. Community Advocacy: Strengthen trauma-informed programming in Northwest Tulsa by building strategic alliances with local neighbors and community stakeholders. Private Sector Fundraising & Stewardship Chief Philanthropy Officer: Serve as the primary face of fundraising, leading the Board and staff to secure at least $2.5M in annual private revenue through a diversified mix of individual, corporate, and foundation support. Strategic Growth: Design and execute a data-driven major gifts strategy, utilizing compelling storytelling and national best practices to activate new donor segments. Strategic Collaboration: Work alongside the Director of Communications & Engagement to refine a sophisticated fundraising roadmap that supports general operations and long-term mission success. School & District Investments Educational Partnerships: Maintain and expand transformational relationships with district and school leadership to ensure integrated support for students. Contract Negotiation: Lead the negotiation of school service contracts to ensure sustainable, multi-year public revenue streams. Financial Management Fiscal Oversight: Maintain the financial health of a ~$2M+ budget, ensuring a minimum 3% annual operating surplus through rigorous forecasting and expense management. Transparency & Reporting: Provide accurate, timely financial reporting for the Board of Directors, grantors, and philanthropic partners to ensure full transparency and accountability. Board Member Engagement Board Development: Partner with the Board Chair to recruit and retain a diverse, high-functioning Board of Directors committed to the mission of The Common Good. Governance & Strategy: Facilitate a robust committee structure to execute a multi-year strategic plan, ensuring the Board is empowered with the insights and data needed for effective governance. Municipal Relationships & Public Grants Public Affairs: Lead strategic advocacy with the Mayor, City Council, School Board, and state agencies (DHS/DOE) to align public policy with organizational goals. Grant Stewardship: Oversee the successful procurement and management of AmeriCorps grants, ensuring rigorous compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements. Schedule & Availability Standard Hours: This is a full-time, exempt leadership position. Standard office hours are generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM. Flexibility & Evenings: Given the nature of community engagement and fundraising, the Executive Director must have the flexibility to attend evening events and weekend community events, as required. Operational Seasonality: Peak activity periods coincide with the academic calendar and the year-end giving season (October–December). Working Conditions Location: This position is based on-site at our community center in Northwest Tulsa. Being a visible, present leader for our staff and neighbors is a core requirement of the role. Environment: The work environment is dynamic and high-energy. You will transition daily between a professional office setting and the active, bustling environment of our community center and partner schools. Travel: Local travel within the Tulsa metro area is frequent for donor meetings and site visits. Occasional regional may be required for conferences or national organizational alignment. Physical & Mental Demands Engagement: The role requires the ability to engage in frequent public speaking and long periods of interpersonal interaction. Agility: Must be comfortable navigating a community center environment, which may include stairs and moving between different activity zones. Resilience: As a leader in a trauma-informed organization, the Executive Director must possess high emotional intelligence and the ability to maintain composure and focus in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
