Key Personnel is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join a growing Credit Union in the Tulsa, OK area.

Accounting Specialist Pay: $20/hr

Accounting Specialist Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Accounting Specialist Summary:

The Accounting Specialist plays a key role in supporting the Chief Executive Officer by maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, preparing daily financial reports, and ensuring the integrity of the Credit Union's accounting operations. This position is responsible for assisting with daily accounting functions, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting while maintaining compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, trustworthy, and thrives in a collaborative financial environment.

Accounting Specialist Responsibilities:

• Work directly with the CEO to support the Credit Union's daily accounting operations.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and subsidiary ledgers.
• Prepare and post daily journal entries with accuracy and timeliness.
• Generate, review, and distribute daily financial reports and operational reports.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Research and resolve account discrepancies and balancing issues.
• Monitor cash balances and assist with daily cash management functions.
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting transactions as needed.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.
• Prepare documentation for internal and external audits and regulatory examinations.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Credit Union policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
• Maintain confidentiality of all financial, member, and organizational information.
• Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate with management and other departments to support organizational goals.
• Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Accounting Specialist Qualifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent accounting experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 2 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial institution experience preferred.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Experience using accounting or core banking software is preferred.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with executive leadership.

Accounting Specialist Preferred Skills:

• Previous credit union or banking experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GAAP and financial institution accounting practices.
• Experience with month-end close and audit preparation.
• Advanced Excel skills including formulas, PivotTables, and financial reporting.
• Experience preparing financial statements and management reports.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

• Primarily works in a professional office environment.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer and standard office equipment.
• Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds.
• Requires frequent use of computers, calculators, telephones, and other office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, employees, members, auditors, and vendors.
