This role will work a hybrid schedule coming into the Columbus, Ohio, Des Moines, Iowa, or Scottsdale, Arizona office 2 days (Wednesday & Thursday) per week. DOTS (Data Operations Technology Solutions) is looking for a Specialist Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance and control activities in developing a modern data platform. In this role you will be part of a complex mega data transformation program that is developing a state‑of‑the‑art modern data platform with cutting‑edge technologies like Databricks, Snowflake, Python, DataOps, AtScale and Streamsets, etc. You will be part of a highly skilled, highly collaborative and friendly team that helps you grow professionally and personally. Required Skills Must have expertise in advanced SQL queries Must have expertise in ETL tools like Informatica Must have solid experience in data warehousing projects and deeper understanding of the project lifecycle of data projects Must have solid understanding in testing framework, test tools and various test activities Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills Should be self‑motivated, self‑organized and results‑driven personality Experience with agile testing within the software development lifecycle Test automation skills with tools like Tosca Nice to Have Skills Good understanding in object‑oriented languages and Python Job Description Summary As a Quality Engineer you will plan and conduct a wide range of software quality tests and analyses to ensure all application products and services meet organizational standards aligned to their quality management approach, as well as end‑user requirements. All Quality Engineers perform quality planning, quality design and execution. You will focus on a blend of skills enabling efficient execution of risk‑based testing, test automation, performance testing, test data management, test environment management, continuous integration and continuous deployment—all improving speed to delivery for our business partners. Key Responsibilities Carrying out procedures to ensure all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end‑user requirements. Analyzing and reviewing moderate requirements, user stories and technical work products to create the automation needed. Planning for the proper mix of manual, automated, and exploratory testing methods. Using the appropriate quality engineering tools to define test data management, test automation, security/vulnerability, performance, and regression testing needs. Validating test results, recording and researching defects. Coordinating test runs and test environment calendars for all impacted applications. Tracing requirements to tests and test results. Prioritizing, defining, and managing defect reporting and resolution. Managing defects including identifying, tracking, and providing critical thinking for resolution. Identifying means to be more effective and efficient in testing, without compromising quality. Planning for continuous integration to enable a continuous deployment pipeline. Executing moderate release testing and having a plan for back‑out testing. Validating that release components are installed in the appropriate testing environment. Aligning with the Nationwide automated testing reference architecture. Complying with release management process governance and timelines throughout the release. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships Reports to Technology Manager or Director. Typical Skills and Experiences Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred. License/Certification/Designation: Technology certifications including TOSCA Automated Specialist 1 (AS1), TOSCA Automated Specialist 2 (AS2), or other related designations are preferred. Experience: Four or more years of experience with test optimization and automation processes and tools. Demonstrated experience in testing for agile teams including planning, test plan creation, maintenance and execution. Good understanding of test automation and optimization throughout a stack and the tools to support. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong analytical and communication skills, knowledge of planning. Ability to problem‑solve and set priorities needed. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus. Values Regularly and consistently demonstrates the Nationwide Values.
