MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years of experience in a laboratory, greenhouse or nursery, the biological sciences, or related field; or College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences. (Note: If education is being used to qualify for this position, you must provide a copy of an official or unofficial transcript as supporting documentation showing the required coursework.) EDUCATIONAL NOTE: Graduates utilizing education attained in the United States to meet the minimum requirements of a position will not be appointed until verification of the applicable degree has been obtained. JOB DUTIES:

This position assists Biological Scientists in maintaining the LaCrosse Citrus Repository Facility that support the FDACS-Division of Plant Industry’s Citrus Budwood Registration and Certification programs. Maintains a clean and organized laboratory space, including but not limited to dish washing, sweeping, disposing of trash, and mopping. Inventories, cleans, and provides seed for greenhouse planting and shoot-tip grafting (STG). Performs laboratory duties to support shoot-tip grafting (STG) activities, including but not limited to preparing laboratory media following written protocols, sterilizing tools, and germinating seed in vitro. Assists greenhouse staff with watering, potting, scouting, pruning, and moving of plant materials. Assists greenhouse staff with weeding, cleaning, and organizing of greenhouse spaces. Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures. Knowledge of personal computer operations and software (Microsoft Office). Knowledge of plant-insect interaction. Skilled in completing and maintaining accurate records. Ability to understand and follow technical instructions. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Ability to lift 50 lbs. and bend repetitiously. Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, humid environments. Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
