Per Diem Histology Technician

As a Per Diem Histology Technician , you will play a critical role in preparing and processing tissue specimens for pathological examination. You will perform embedding, sectioning, routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, frozen sections, and immunohistochemical staining while maintaining strict standards for specimen identification, quality, accuracy, and patient safety.

A typical day for a Per Diem Histology Technician may include:

* Prepare and process tissue specimens for review and diagnosis by pathologists.

* Perform embedding, sectioning, and routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining in accordance with established policies and procedures.

* Produce high-quality frozen sections suitable for immunofluorescent staining.

* Perform immunohistochemical staining techniques according to established laboratory procedures.

* Apply quality control principles to evaluate positive and negative staining results and ensure reliable testing.

* Review tissue specimens and prepared slides to ensure quality and suitability for pathological examination.

* Maintain accurate patient identification throughout the specimen processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and labeling processes.

* Correctly assign pathology numbers to patient specimens in accordance with established procedures.

* Process specimens accurately to ensure that tissue blocks and slide labels correspond correctly to the appropriate patient and specimen.

* Maintain accurate documentation related to specimen processing, staining, quality control, and other laboratory activities.

* Monitor and manage antibody inventory to support uninterrupted histology and immunohistochemistry operations.

* Follow established laboratory safety procedures, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

* Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment while supporting efficient laboratory operations and patient care.

* Collaborate with pathologists and other laboratory professionals to support timely, accurate, and high-quality diagnostic services.

* Participate in maintaining laboratory quality standards and following departmental policies and procedure manuals.

To be considered for this Per Diem Histology Technician opportunity, you must:

* Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

* Have previous experience working as a Histology Technician.

* Demonstrate the ability to prepare tissue specimens of a quality suitable for diagnosis by a pathologist.

Preferred qualifications include:

* Bachelor's degree in a scientific field, or current enrollment in a science degree program.

* HT or HTL certification is highly preferred.

Schedule: Per Diem, Monday through Friday, with schedule flexibility required for early morning hours.
