Distribution Engineering Supervisor

Description Leidos is seeking a Distribution Engineering Supervisor in Oahu, Hawaii who is passionate about electric utility design engineering. In this role you will direct a team of 5‑8 engineers to develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4 kV through 138 kV, focusing on programmatic work such as overloaded transformers, inspections, joint use, and substation optimization. Location & Relocation This position is based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Candidates are expected to relocate to Oahu to support our local utility customers, projects, and team. Responsibilities Lead a team of 5‑8 engineers in developing design and construction work packages for overhead and underground distribution systems. Prepare work packages that include engineering calculations, constructability concerns, GIS, CAD, WMS, and other client systems. Oversee day‑to‑day assignments for direct reports. Act as technical lead for engineers and designers, ensuring high‑quality design deliverables. Train junior engineers and designers. Coordinate with Engineering Manager to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget. Onboard and evaluate direct reports. Review client‑provided work and assess scope requirements. Communicate work progress, technical issues, and schedule to clients. Ensure compliance with Leidos and client safety requirements and design quality expectations. Develop permitting documents for various AHJs. Coordinate with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, and third‑party owners for joint‑owned poles. Travel to sites and client meetings as needed. Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying, conductor sag and tension, voltage drop, and flicker. Review and QA/QC other engineers’ work for client submittals. Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews. Conduct root‑cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design. Qualifications 4+ years of relevant experience. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET‑accredited institution, or equivalent experience/certifications. Experience with NESC Standards, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, and Bluebeam and/or Adobe. Proven experience designing distribution systems for overhead, underground, or utility‑own‑right‑of‑way (URD) environments. Experience with ESRI and GIS is a plus. Experience with distribution design tools such as O‑Calc and SAG10 is required; BOUD, Pole Foreman, and Spida‑Calc experience is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong eye for detail and ability to review other engineers’ designs. Experience monitoring scopes and tracking others’ work progress. Prior team leadership experience is a plus. Willingness to perform both field and office work. Overnight travel may be required (15‑25 % travel). Ability to work in outdoor environments. Ability to utilize personal vehicle.
