Job Description Facilities Supervisor About Boston College and the Office of Residential Life Boston College is a Division One university withapproximately 9,500 undergraduate students (7,700 residential), located on 118acres in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, a beautiful suburb seven miles from thecenter of Boston. Our role in this formationaldevelopment is achieved by promoting the academic mission, encouragingresponsible and ethical behaviors, engaging residents in conversationsregarding diversity, and creating safe, well-managed learning environmentswhere students can seek the greater good. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President and Director ofResidential Education and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40professional staff members, 22 graduate positions, 192 RAs, and 20 additionalstudent employees. Basic Function and Responsibility The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that allresidential life facilities are properly furnished and maintained throughout the calendar year. The day-to-day responsibilities include responding tostudent furniture work order requests, inventory, and the replacement ofresidence hall furnishings. The Facilities Supervisor provides training andsupervision to 15-20 student workers and coordinates the daily work schedulesof all facilities area student workers. As part of a team conductingroutine inspections of residential spaces and ensuring the preparation of theresidence halls for occupancy throughout the year, including the preparation ofguest and emergency spaces, the Facilities Supervisor assists in theidentification of safety & maintenance concerns and the communication ofthe same to the work order center, appropriate supervisors, and the ResidentDirectors. Primary Areas of Responsibility TheFacilities Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of allfurniture contained in the university’s over 7,700 student bed spaces, inaddition to staff apartments, common areas, and lounges. Performcomprehensive inspections of facilities, and ensure all rooms are properlyfurnished, equipped, and ready for occupancy, for both the academicsemesters as well as summer student and conference groups. TheFacilities Supervisor assists with maintaining accurate inventory data ofitems in the off-site warehouse and storage locations within the residencehalls and provides recommendations to their supervisor for Residence Hallareas that need upgrades, new furniture, or improvements. Takesin deliveries of large furniture orders and installation of furniture instudent rooms, lounges, and other areas; cuts and hangs shades; changesfurniture inserts, and performs light furniture refurbishing/refinishingas needed. Collaboratewith campus partners and external vendors to report, address, and executeevents related to the Residence Halls. Submitnecessary work orders and process work orders from students on a timelybasis that pertain to residence hall furniture/blinds. FacilitySupervisors provide training and supervision to designated studentworkers. Coordinatethe daily work schedules and assist with interviewing and selection ofResidential Life facilities student workers. TheFacilities Supervisors are expected to be available to respond tofacilities emergencies in the residence halls and support short andmedium-term relocations of students in the event of a room becominguninhabitable. Flexibleschedule necessary to accommodate emergency situations or off-hoursfurniture deliveries. Someweekends are required during move-in and move-out periods and regularweekend shifts during the summer months. Theduties and responsibilities outlined in the role description are a goodreflection of the role. However, there are responsibilities that may notbe explicitly included, and there will be times when the role will need toadapt and assume other duties to support our students and the universityand division's strategic initiatives. Eachstaff member is expected to contribute to the greater goals of the division andthe university. These contributions (outside of your primary work area)may include supporting division and university-wide initiatives, staffingevents, and serving on committees as needed. Some of this work may take placeon weekends and outside of normal business hours. Hiring Range: $22.67/hr to $28.34/hr. Pay rate commensurate with relevant experience. Requirements Excellentorganizational skills, good public relations, inventory skills, decisionmaking ability, and maintain good relations with staff and students. Comprehensionand appreciation of the Jesuit values and mission, and the traditions andheritage of Boston College. Demonstratedknowledge and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion. Demonstratedknowledge of utilization of work order system, cell phone/I-pads,Google suite, and appropriate position technology preferred. Experiencein repairing furniture and knowledge of basic hand tools and repairs tofurnishings preferred. Musthave good customer service skills. Strongwork ethic and the ability to be a team player, to work independently andto be a self-starter. Abilityto work in a fast-paced, higher education environment. Mustbe able to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
