Project Accountant IIThe Project Accountant II supports ITEX's ICON construction division, providing accounting support directly to Project Managers on active construction projects. This role oversees all accounting processes for assigned projects, keeping them on budget, monitoring job costs against approved contract values, and resolving sub-contractor issues as they arise. The successful candidate has a solid grasp of construction accounting fundamentals, including job costing, lien waivers, and pay application review; is detail-oriented and well-organized; and works well under pressure to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Process invoices and payments for assigned construction projectsProcess owner and sub-contractor pay applications and change ordersProcess bank draws in coordination with project timelinesPrepare and reconcile monthly owner requisitions and subcontractor pay applications for assigned projectsPerform project budget analysis, cost variance analysis, and re-forecasting as neededPrepare and deliver job cost reporting, including job cost transfers and cost coding reviewSupport month-end close activities, including journal entries and general ledger account reconciliationsTrack and follow up on subcontractor compliance documentation, including insurance certificates, W-9s, and lien waiversAssist in setting up cost codes and budgets for new project contractsMaintain organized project accounting files, including contracts, POs, bills, liens, and correspondenceProvide training and day-to-day process guidance to junior Project Accountants on the teamPerform other duties as directed by managementWe're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced construction accounting environment, communicates effectively with Project Managers and sub-contractors, and takes ownership of keeping projects on track financially.Specifically, we're looking for someone who:Is highly detail-oriented and well-organizedHas strong interpersonal and communication skillsWorks well under pressure and consistently meets deadlinesCan lead and mentor a small team of accountantsBrings sound judgment to subcontractor documentation, compliance tracking, and billing accuracyThrives in a shared, open bullpen-style office setting, working closely alongside Project Managers and the accounting teamCompetitive salaryMedical, dental, and vision insurance (BCBS of Texas HSA/HMO/PPO options)401(k) with 4% company matchProfessional development and growth opportunitiesRequirementsHigh school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred3+ years of construction accounting support experience requiredWorking knowledge of AIA billing formats, retainage, lien waivers, and change order processingFamiliarity with job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting conceptsExperience with Yardi, AIA software, Sage, and Procore preferredHighly proficient in Microsoft ExcelProficient 10-key data entryThis position primarily works in an office environment and requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
