Automotive Mechanic

FATS Auto Parts is seeking an experienced and dependable Automotive Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining customer vehicles while providing high-quality workmanship, efficient service, and a positive customer experience.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of professional automotive repair experience, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to independently complete repairs accurately and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and performance-related vehicle issues.
• Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance services.
• Repair and replace brakes, suspension components, steering components, cooling systems, and other mechanical systems.
• Diagnose and repair engine and drivetrain-related issues.
• Perform electrical and electronic system diagnostics and repairs.
• Use diagnostic equipment, scanners, and other automotive repair tools to identify vehicle problems.
• Conduct vehicle inspections and identify necessary or recommended repairs.
• Review work orders and ensure repairs are completed according to the authorized scope of work.
• Accurately document diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts used, and additional recommended services.
• Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards for quality and safety.
• Test-drive vehicles when appropriate to verify concerns and confirm completed repairs.
• Communicate with management and service personnel regarding vehicle condition, repair needs, and estimated completion times.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Follow manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and FATS policies and procedures.
• Comply with all workplace safety requirements and proper handling and disposal procedures for automotive fluids, batteries, chemicals, and other materials.
• Maintain dependable attendance and report to work as scheduled.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of professional automotive mechanic/technician experience required.
• Strong mechanical and automotive diagnostic skills.
• Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose and repair a variety of vehicle systems.
• Knowledge of modern automotive electrical and computerized systems.
• Ability to properly use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and automotive repair equipment.
• Ability to read and understand repair manuals, technical service information, and manufacturer specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to manage multiple repair assignments and work efficiently in a flat-rate environment.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
• Experience working on a broad range of vehicle makes and models.
• Advanced diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting experience.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a regular schedule of:

Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the physical functions associated with professional automotive repair work, including:

• Standing and walking for extended periods.
• Bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and working in confined areas.
• Working underneath and around vehicles.
• Using hand and power tools for extended periods.
• Frequently lifting and carrying automotive parts, tools, and equipment.
• Safely lifting up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with appropriate assistance or equipment.
• Working around automotive fluids, chemicals, exhaust, noise, and varying temperatures.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an automotive shop environment. Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, vehicle exhaust, oils and chemicals, elevated noise levels, and hot or cold working conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment and established safety procedures must be followed.
