Company Cox Automotive - USA Job Family Group Vehicle Operations Job Profile Mobile Light Medium Tech II - Non-DOT (Flag) Management Level Individual Contributor Flexible Work Option Can work remotely but need to live in the specified city, state, or region Travel % Yes 100% of the time Work Shift Day Job Summary The Light/Medium Duty Automotive Technician will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, licensed DOT inspections, and other duties as assigned at our customer locations. The technician will continue to learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques, comply with all company policies, and achieve high level performance metrics. Work on various light/medium duty vehicles such as F150, F250, and F350, including specialty equipment. Travel is required 100% of the time to serve multiple customers in the area and around the state. A rotating schedule of Mon‑Fri the first week and Mon‑Sat the second week, with home days every day. Duties Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures. Travel to and perform work at customer locations, most of it performed outside. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light and medium vehicles in the field. Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment. Use hand tools, precision instruments, as well as some diesel tools, lifts, and jacks. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of customer vehicles, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas only), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentials, and more. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of vehicles using test instruments such as scanners and pressure gauges. Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment. Independently determine parts required for each job, order, and pick up parts for installation. Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Document according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company devices. Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly. Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist in cleanup at the end of each day. Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform the job. Work with support teams to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations. Manage concurrent tasks by prioritizing work and allocating time effectively. Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards. Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times. Communicate with corporate support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates and discuss repair order findings. Participate in and complete all company‑required safety training. Maintain assigned service vehicle, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections. Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures. Requirements High School Diploma or GED preferred. Safe drivers; valid driver’s license required. Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an Automotive Technician on light/medium vehicle repair or an equivalent combination of technical education, certifications, skills, or experiences. Two (2) years of equivalent experience in a similar Technician role. Participate in and complete all company‑required training. Skills & Abilities Understand new information for current and future problem‑solving and decision‑making. Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods and perform moderately heavy labor. Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods without tiring, including repetitive tasks. Communicate information succinctly and engage in effective two‑way communication with individuals and groups. Determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
