Responsible for performing a broad scope of engineering assignments of advanced difficulty requiring extensive knowledge in engineering related disciplines. Team members should align with and contribute to the Mortenson values and ethical standards as stated in the Mortenson Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and understand and abide by the procedures and practices outlined in the Mortenson Operations Manual.RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for the relay protection & control engineering aspects on substation and transmission design projectsAct as a technical specialist who develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and new approaches to unusual or exceptionally complex engineering problemsInterface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision makers, project teams, etc.)Provide technical leadership on many large and small design projects annually across 69Kv and above scopesCollect data and make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have an important impact on extensive engineering activitiesDemonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, program objectives and requirements, organizing programs, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activitiesResponsible for the application of complex engineering skills requiring advanced knowledgeReview and approve equipment vendor drawings and sign off on testing report on major equipment from manufacturersProvide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and constructionCoordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projectsMentor, coach and develop junior team membersAssist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditionsPlan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteriaConduct project detailed designs aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice StandardsVerify that construction is in agreement with electrical engineering design drawings, including preparatory meetings, and QA/QCPerform data analysis and advanced engineering tasks, calculations and studies to develop preliminary and detailed designs for completion of large and small projectsDevelop and evaluate the technical requirements and standards for fabrication and construction tender packagesInitiate and maintain extensive contact with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies, requiring skill in persuasion and negotiation of critical issuesResearch engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendationsEffectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage performanceQUALIFICATIONSStrong project management and analytical problem solving skillsStrong understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policiesAdvanced knowledge of engineering principles, business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirementsExtensive knowledge of software packages: ASPEN, ETAP, PSSE, CDEGS, AutoCAD, Microstation, Primtech, etc.Extensive knowledge in system modeling, relay coordination studies, and development of associated protective relay settings for systems ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kVActive listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedbackAbility to travel up to 50%Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and Affirmative Action plans and their intended useBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering programProfessional Engineering (PE) license is expected or can be acquired within 6 monthsMinimum fifteen (15) years related work experienceExperience in the T&D industryA few benefits offered include: (for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week)Medical and prescription drug plans that includes no additional cost vision coverage Dental plan 401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson matchPaid time off, holidays, and other paid leaves Employer paid Life, AD&D, and disability insurance No-Cost mental health tool and concierge with extensive work-life resourcesTuition reimbursement Adoption Assistance Gym Membership Discount Program The base pay range for this role is $140,000 - $210,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
