Senior Software Engineer I, APPT

Our mission is to keep commerce human and foster inclusive communities. Responsibilities Lead the design, implementation, and delivery of moderately complex solutions aligned with team goals. Contribute across Etsy’s search and recommendations stacks, including application back‑end technologies such as Scala, Java, and Python. Work with machine learning components using Spark, Scalding, and Airflow to support the next generation data discovery platform in the cloud. Develop and maintain critical‑path product services and infrastructure. Provide detailed, constructive design and code reviews. Collaborate cross‑functionally with platform, ML, and product partners. Research, analyze data, and run A/B tests to gain actionable insights. Push code to production early and often through continuous deployment systems. Build and maintain observability and testing tooling such as logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, alerting, and offline test tools for search and recommendation systems. Practice continuous learning and adopt agile delivery models to stay informed and focused on deliverables. Enable and support teammates to ensure their success and timely delivery of features. Plan technical work to reduce failure scenarios and identify edge cases early. Qualifications Experience with back‑end development in Scala, Java, or Python. Knowledge of big‑data and machine‑learning frameworks such as Spark, Scalding, and Airflow. Strong understanding of distributed systems, observability, and performance testing.
