Telemetry Monitoring Job Title: Monitor Technician 2 Location: Baylor University Medical Center – Dallas, TX. Sign‑On Bonus: $1000 Employment Type: Full Time – Night shift. Job Summary The Monitor Technician 2 oversees the continuous monitoring, recording, interpreting, and documenting of electrocardiogram (ECG) tracings from patients of all ages on telemetry monitors. The technician follows the critical escalation path when appropriate and reports arrhythmias to medical or nursing staff. Essential Functions of the Role Operate complex cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens, a computerized dysrhythmia detection system, and rhythm printers. Observe and document ECG monitors according to established guidelines, and report essential information (patient name, room number, cardiac rhythm, dysrhythmia, and life‑threatening situations) to appropriate staff. Maintain and monitor equipment and environment, reporting any malfunctions to the maintenance department. Set up the central station, monitor alarms, troubleshoot false alarms, and correct improper lead placement. Assist with rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia detection; label monitor strips for significant events such as defibrillation, electrical cardioversion, CPR, and code medication administration. Record information in the patient’s log and maintain an accurate, neat account of the patient’s cardiac monitoring status during the episode of care. Serve as Monitor Tech Lead in the assigned unit/department, directing, coordinating, and participating in the effective operations of the Monitor Tech staff to ensure high‑quality patient care and completion of required competencies. Perform other position‑appropriate duties as required by leadership in a competent, professional, and courteous manner while adhering to policies and procedures, disseminating information appropriately, ensuring proper coverage of personnel, and maintaining clear communication with leadership regarding unit needs and incidents. Key Success Factors Complete required competencies annually. Knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the heart, including waves, complexes, time, and voltage, and the conduction system as displayed on ECG strips. Knowledge of telemetry services. Ability to oversee personnel effectively and efficiently. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to work cooperatively with members of the healthcare delivery team. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and schedules. Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions, and respond quickly to emergencies. Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others professionally.
