Job Description

The dietary worker supports food service operations by preparing and serving meals for patients, cafeteria guests, and special functions in a hospital setting. This role includes food preparation, tray assembly, dishwashing, sanitation, and basic utility tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen and cafeteria environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food for patients, the cafeteria, and special functions following established recipes and portion guidelines.
• Assemble patient meal trays accurately and promptly, ensuring all items match the patient’s requests and therapeutic diet orders.
• Provide cafeteria service by serving all customers in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
• Handle cash accurately and operate the cash register for cafeteria transactions.
• Perform dishwashing duties, including loading and unloading dish machines and hand-washing items as needed.
• Carry out general utility and janitorial tasks such as cleaning, mopping, sweeping, and sanitizing kitchen and service areas.
• Maintain cleanliness of workstations, equipment, and food preparation areas in accordance with food safety and sanitation standards.
• Assist with food production, kitchen prep, and food handling to support daily meal service.
• Follow established techniques and procedures to complete duties efficiently and in compliance with safety and hygiene requirements.
• Comply with scheduled shifts, arriving on time and maintaining satisfactory attendance in line with operational needs.
• Adhere to all dress code and appearance requirements while on duty.
• Work nights, weekends, and some holidays as part of a flexible schedule to support continuous food service operations.

• Ability to perform cleaning, mopping, sweeping, and general janitorial duties in a food service environment.
• Basic understanding of or ability to learn proper food handling, food preparation, and food production practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and use established techniques for efficient and compliant completion of duties.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn the proper and safe use of applicable custodial equipment.
• Capacity to perform dishwashing tasks, including operating dish machines and handling dishware safely.
• Ability to provide courteous and timely service to patients and cafeteria customers.
• Basic cash handling skills and ability to operate a cash register, or willingness to learn.
• Reliability in attending work and arriving for scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
• Willingness to comply with all dress code requirements.
• No previous experience required, with a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn on the job.

• Willingness to be open to learning and growing in a fast-paced food service environment.
• Appropriate maturity of judgment and ability to maintain high standards for work areas and personal appearance.
• Interest in hospitality and providing a positive experience for patients and guests.
• Comfort working in both a modern cafeteria setting and an older kitchen environment.
• Ability to adapt to changing tasks, such as moving between tray assembly, dishwashing, and food prep as needed.

You will work in a professional hospital food service environment that values reliability, learning, and growth. The role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in food service and hospitality, even without prior experience, while developing skills in customer service, food preparation, and sanitation. You will contribute directly to patient care and guest satisfaction by helping provide safe, timely, and well-prepared meals in a supportive team setting.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital environment with a climate-controlled setting that includes a brand-new café and an older kitchen area. You will work around standard food service equipment, dish machines, and custodial tools while following established safety and sanitation procedures. The schedule requires flexibility, with shifts that may include nights, weekends, and some holidays to support continuous meal service. Team members must comply with the designated dress code and maintain a neat, professional appearance appropriate for a healthcare and food service setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fenton, MO.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
