Shift Type: Night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours guaranteed per week, self-scheduling with 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (Friday-Saturday nights) and 1 holiday off during the assignment

Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver expert critical care to Level 1 trauma, neuro, and cardiovascular patients in a fast-paced surgical ICU
• Titrate complex drips including propofol, fentanyl, precedex, levophed, vasopressin, and insulin with precision
• Manage ventilators and advanced specialty devices while interpreting your own telemetry strips
• Perform thorough patient assessments and respond quickly to changes in status
• Float confidently between sister ICUs, including the medical cardiac and overflow units, to support the whole hospital
• Step into the charge nurse role when needed, supporting your teammates without carrying a patient assignment
• Collaborate with intensivists, hospitalists, and respiratory therapists available around the clock
• Educate patients and families with compassion during some of their most difficult moments

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in Arizona or compact eligibility
• A full 3 years of recent ICU experience, with at least 2 of those years in an ICU setting
• Experience must include neuro or cardiovascular critical care
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Comfortable completing a UNA Dysrhythmia Exam 24 to 48 hours before acceptance (2 attempts max)
• Willing to complete a pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation
• First-time travelers are welcome as long as the experience requirement is met
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility and not have worked full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year

Education

• Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Level 1 trauma Center, Falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs, trauma patients over age of 15. Ex-lap, crani, speciality neuro-surgery cases. CVA, status post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, ARDS.
• Experience or 'Must have' skills
• Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes
• Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetatol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin
• Charge Nurse Yes, do not take patients
• Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios no, only used for sitters and as Health Unit Secretary
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house Yes, 24/7
• RT in ICU 24/7 Yes
• RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, Bi Pap, etc) Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Benette 840, V60s Bipap, Airvo
• Are there Tele/Monitor Techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? No monitor techs on unit, RN required to intrepret own strip. GE monitors
• Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) Self scheduling. Manager may need to balance shifts for unit needs.
• Weekend Requirements 3 weekend shifts in a 4 week schedule, Nightshift weekends are Friday - Saturday. Dayshift are Saturday - Sunday
• Holiday Requirements May have 1 holiday off in an assisgnment
• Is there a call or standby requirement? No additional call/standby shifts required. However, may be low censused up to 3 times per contract depending on unit needs
• Floating Requirements Float to tele with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed
• Scrub Color/Dress Code Navy
• Unit/Department specific orientation 1-2 days
• Additional Notes: Will validate skills for trauma, neuro and speciality devices as needed. Sister units are a medical/cardiac 36 bed ICU & 12 bed overflow ICU. Expectation is to float between all 3 ICUs.
• Additional Questions: Okay with first time traveler, however must have 3 years experience (with 2 of those years in the ICU). Level 1 experience or neuro experience not required but preferred. Prefer prior experience work at a similar size unit ICU.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical care nursing judgment and rapid clinical decision making
• Telemetry interpretation and independent rhythm strip reading
• Ventilator management with Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPAP, and Airvo
• Drip titration across vasoactive, sedative, and analgesic medications
• Charge nurse leadership and team coordination
• Comfort with CRRT, ECMO, IABP, and Impella (preferred, not required)
• Level 1 trauma familiarity (preferred, not required)
• Cerner charting experience is a plus
