Sr Relay Technician

We're seeking an experienced Sr Relay Technician to support the testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protective relay systems in substations and power facilities. This role serves as the technical lead on commissioning projects and plays a key role in ensuring the reliability and safety of critical electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Test, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot protective relays and control systems.
• Perform functional testing of protection and control circuits.
• Analyze relay settings, protection logic, and system performance.
• Conduct end-to-end relay testing and fault simulations.
• Support SCADA and communication systems, including fiber optics and Modbus networks.
• Lead field projects, develop testing procedures, and interface directly with customers.
• Mentor junior technicians and support best practices in safety and quality.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of protective relay testing and commissioning experience.
• Strong knowledge of protective relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, etc.).
• Experience with relay settings, protection schemes, and system troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring drawings.
• Experience with substation controls, SCADA, and communications systems.
• Proven project leadership and customer-facing experience.
• NETA II-IV or NICET certification preferred.

Work Environment

This is a travel-intensive role supporting projects throughout the region and across the U.S. Work is performed in substations, industrial facilities, and utility environments, with a mix of field and control-house activities. Per diem and travel expenses are provided.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
