Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical-Surgical Acute Care position requiring an active IL RN license and BLS certification.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a Medical-Surgical Acute Care (MSAC) unit
• 18-bed unit with mostly private rooms and one semi-private room
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• General medical patient population with various diagnoses
• RNs required to titrate Heparin drips
• 24-hour Charge RN and House Supervisor coverage on every shift
• Two PCTs per shift with a 9:1 ratio when unit is full
• Patients may require oxygen up to 6L NC or stable BiPAP/CPAP
• Telemetry patients monitored remotely house-wide using primarily Phillips equipment
• Unit clerk (PCL) provides 24-hour coverage
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) with shift report at 7a and 7p
• Every other weekend required (Sat/Sun for days)
• Holiday rotation required per policy
• No call or standby requirement
• Travel RNs are first to float to other units as needed

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• ACLS preferred for Charge RN role
• 1+ year of hospital experience preferred
• Must be able to attempt IV starts and utilize unit resources as needed
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Additional Information

• Provide direct medical-surgical nursing care to general medicine patients with various diagnoses
• Collaborate with unit leadership on scheduling preferences when possible
• Attempt IV starts as needed, with inpatient phlebotomy team available for blood draws
• Work alongside in-house Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage 24/7
• Support from in-house Respiratory Therapy 24/7 and Pharmacy 24/7 for medication preparation
• Any color scrubs permitted, provided by staff (no pediatric scrubs)
• Typical unit orientation includes one 12-hour shift with a preceptor
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction, though local rate applies within 50 miles of the facility
